Re: what are you doing ?

bodes_nebulae_small.jpg Messier 81 & 82 aka Bode's nebulae. A few hundred million years ago, a close encounter took place between them which deformed the smaller one. Their centres are currently about 150,000 light years apart. This image was an integration of roughly 70, 5 minute exposures. Th...

Anti-virus for mac

Apologies, this is not computer audio, but I thought it would be better here.
Does anyone use any anti-virus on a mac?
Leaning towards bitdefender at the moment....
Any that I should avoid?
Thanks

Re: Fg810 - A Working Title

I think I know where Mike is coming from on this. I have several (too many if I’m honest) “unfinished business” projects. It’s great to see someone cracking on with one!

Mike, I can’t believe you kept that school book all these years - the project obviously means a lot to you. Good luck!

Re: what are you doing ?

I've been doing a bit of astrophotography on and off for about 10 years - although I'm still not very good at it. During that time, there has been a gradual trend towards mounting some sort of mini pc on the scope and automating the process. A few years ago I tried astroberry, which runs on a raspbe...

It’s possible you could scrub that much speed off going around a roundabout.

Re: Interesting (non musical) YouTube videos.

When I was studying, we took a couple of Chinese students to Santa Pod to watch some drag racing. We tried very hard to explain to them what was happening and why it was happening, but I don’t think they got it. They were asking why the government would pay for such vehicles to be developed. Anyway,...

Re: Quite possibly my last speakers

I haven’t done any composite design for a long time, but from what I remember… The typical use would be: skin - film adhesive - core (rohacell or aluminium honeycomb) - film adhesive - skin Vacuum bag to consolidate and into the autoclave for curing. The main thing is that the core must do two thing...

Re: Quite possibly my last speakers

Rohacell sheets might be worth a try. Possibly easier (less messy) than expanding foam, and more consistent. But one of its attractions is low mass, which may not be important in a speaker?

Just been to see Jack Johnson at a lovely new venue, on the mount at Wasing. A small natural amphitheatre surrounded by forest. Jack was on top form.

Re: Nothing In Particular

Ethernet connectivity between my laptop and the CNC router is now flaky and dropping out frequently. Lead is fine when I checked it. Had a quick look for industrial rj45 connectors, but am drawing a blank for anything sub £100. As thought I would change the socket on the CNC to something you can sc...

Re: 401 bearing issues

Lubricating oils are designed to work over a certain temperature range, depending on the application.
So with motor oil I would be worried that the viscosity might be too high at room temp.
Slideway oil and fishing reel oil do sound like better candidates

Re: Nothing In Particular

See if you can find an adapter that allows you to fit current production batteries from Ryobi or someone to your Hitachi tool. I am planning to do the same to allow me to use my dewalt tools again, after the aftermarket batteries from Amazon died after a few cycles
