Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth
...9...10 A piece of half-round beading glued to that gouge, now. Thanks Ray. I'm glad it sounds as though the recovery as relatively simple - I thought it had started to go wrong with the edge nearest the router base as it doesn't look smooth? Good stuff though an at least your problem was a beari...

It'll take a bit of a hit - $150!

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth
Count to 10 Mark; it's recoverable, just a lot of extra work - I know how you feel though.

I'm glad it worked out with the sale of the horns.
I'm sure we'll look forward to hearing about your new developments.

Re: Nothing In Particular
Found this little chap having a turn in the garden this afternoon;
Apparently its an Elephant Hawk Moth caterpillar. Bit of a bruiser for a caterpillar as you can see by the 10p piece I put next to him.

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.
I've been keeping the cranks turning this week; 119miles covered and 6,400ft climbed.
It was a bit chilly first thing this morning, gonna have to start wearing extra layers and dig out the fingered gloves soon.

Not cars this time and a pretty crap ad at that, but a slice from a great track...

Re: Inverted OTL with 6SN7/6AS7
That's how I am listening since I have built this amp. And I had one faulty tube so far. The sound it made shocked the hell out of me. What was the DC offset that resulted from the tube failure you experience? The XRK/Neurochrome solutions would obviously catch any upward drift of DC offs...

Re: Inverted OTL with 6SN7/6AS7
Of course, there is an alternative, non-technical approach that might be woth considering, that of basic risk management. If one lists different scenarios and assess their probability (of occurring) against their impact (what would happen should they occur) you can reach sound conclusions about miti...

Re: Inverted OTL with 6SN7/6AS7
The InvOTL needs protection from +/- 40V and -250V. The trigger level for the latter needs to be as low as possible (without being triggered by the DC offset!) in order to give enough time for the SSRs to cut it off before it can reach high enough levels at the output that could do damage to the sp...

Re: Inverted OTL with 6SN7/6AS7
I don't know what's more important or sounds "better". Originally I wanted to use the Salas BIB (got 2 PCBs) but their max input voltage is 40V and the 30V toroids have 43V after rectification. If you use tailor made transformers it should work. But you will need big heat sinks for this !...

Re: Inverted OTL with 6SN7/6AS7
I am still struggling a bit with finding the best solution for protecting the speakers from tube discharging or other faults caused by DC. I studied at least 10 different circuits (among them the solutions from Neurochrome and XRK which are really the best compared to the rest) but nothing really s...

Re: Inverted OTL with 6SN7/6AS7
Wolfgang, a question about your output stage power supplies. You currently use the SLB modules; these give you a very clean supply but are not regulators so I assume that you keep them stable, with respect to the output voltage, because you use a mains conditioner so your amp always has the same sup...
