Re: Nothing In Particular

Can you go for an "English" Nick ? Or is our cuisine nor de-riguer out there ? I did go for an "English" breakfast a couple of weeks ago at some place called "Shakespeare and Co.". Some might say that that's how it's supposed to be... It was ghastly: cold, greasy eggs,...

It's a big city and food is central to the way of life here - you can get any cusine you want.

A bit of steamed fish and salad is hardly exotic...

Very healthy, but I'd kill for an Indian takeaway 😀

Only a week until the family are out here too...

Re: Obscure song query - Mendelssohn??

Could be the Te Deum which is for a male choir, or the Ave Maria, which often has a boy treble/soprano soloist.

I can list two; pop and toot. We had this at work a few months ago.

Re: Nothing In Particular

I was trying to work out if Jack used the Penguin as a unit of area or volume, it wasn’t detailed in the original post. Neither - It's the SI unit of satisfaction,1 Penguin is equivalent to at least 10 TimTams, however much our antipodean cousins may delude themselves. I would have thought a better...

Re: Nothing In Particular

A few more minutes of thought. Not sure a Wales is a particular good measure of area. At least some of its circumference (the coast) could be said to be fractal in nature, so we could regard the circumference as infinite. Of course that doesn’t stop the area from being finite, but it does suggest i...

Oh, and its the size of a couple of penguins As a unit, what the conversion to football fields? Not sure about football fields, but it's going to be round about a nanoWales. You need a standards converter -: https://www.theregister.co.uk/Design/page/reg-standards-converter.html 1nW is about 21m^2, ...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Regarding the "barn", there's a bit more to it... ...specifically, its the smallest unit of area they use, so it is an example of inverse nominative determinism, approximately the cross-sectional area of a uranium nucleus - it started in WWII as a code word and it just stuck (bit like &quo...
