Re: Denon 103 retip
Reading the Northwest Analogue site is very tempting. The only cartridge I've had more than one of is the Denon 103 not an R. I went down an analytical route for a while and so in the drawer of old ones I have a Clearaudio Gamma and a Signature (almost brand new) but just as I got the signature I bo...

Denon 103 retip
Has anyone had experience in retipping a Denon 103? Any hints, prices, advice, whatever?
I have another brand new one in a drawer which I can press into service. So ultimately, do I retip or go buy another one to stick in the drawer?
cheers,
Stephen

Anyway, nice to know they can be made to image, if you don't mind tripping over them.

Do you stick signal through these relays as well?Nick wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 8:07 pmYep, I use one as the mute relay.IslandPink wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 6:44 pm If they're used in the signal path of the Longdog DAC, then I could recommend those without reservation.

Signal Relays
I was hoping for a recommendation or specification I should look at for small signal relays. I'm wanting to reconfigure 4 coils on the secondary of a lundahl line out transformer to get 18:1, 9:1 and 4.5:1; that needs a 6 pole 3 way switch which isn't affordable but another option is a cheap 1 pole ...

Re: 6B4G - The Resurrection Shuffle
Hi Steve, I have to ask you a question about the power supply. That 22R 5W jobbie feeds both channels in parallel so offers no isolation/decoupling of channels; that's not a value judgement. Some people like to combine these things right up to even sharing the cathode resistor. I'm a fan of mono (no...

Re: New Headphone Amp
Good effort. The 317 doesn't have a great reputation in that application - I remember the sound of Allen Wright's 300B PP amp ! Always liked the 3575's though, very transparent and natural-sounding. I'm not sure the 317 has a great reputation at all but it is versatile ;) Will be interesting to try...

Re: New Headphone Amp
I tried a few things with the amp over the weekend. Upping the current from 15mA to 20mA per side improved things a bit. I also tried comparing the original vs a modded channel with the CCS replaced by a resistor and an input transformer added. By monoing the headphones and swapping the source and p...

I just found this http://www.hifisentralen.no/forumet/diy ... erker.html which is someone who did the same thing as me (beforehand) but differently and in a proper box.

Re: New Headphone Amp
I can't take much credit for the circuit. It was going to be a Raven type thing http://www.nutshellhifi.com/Raven-MarkII.gif but first up, I didn't want an input transformer; can try later. It all started with the ouput transformer, the Lundahl 1671, which I already had. The HD650s are 300 ohm so th...

New Headphone Amp
I got Sennheiser HD650s for Xmas so needed an amplifier to drive them. Had to start somewhere so cobbled together the amp below with parts I had lying round. It has things in it I wouldn't normally do like a 317 current source and a glow tube; it was the easiest way to get it going. It's driven by t...
