BTW,hope I didn't offend you at Eggy Steve, I like to think we all know each other well enough to be honest about what we hear without any offence being taken. I only ever mean what I say constructively  No I wasn't offended Ali  It is just these sorts of observations from other people t...

Though to be fair Steve from the two pictures its clear there is some common features. The MF DAC seems to have a duplicate analogue output stage. Can't see why it would be a problem either way, small changes can make big differences, so the basic design could be the same and the result very differ...

Great stuff Steve, glad it's made such an improvement. Like to hear the dac sometime, along with the forthcoming Audiolab dac, which has been getting some hype. As for the bass issue, did your Beresford have the passive mod? If so,what value cap did you use? Hi Ali The Beresford had 0.47uF Claritycaps...

Hmm have just red the first 10 + pages of this thread maybe your only option for a DAOB of acceptable size is to use EQ for the bass. not unusual is the impression i get looking at other forums or have a music shed in the garden ? Or go active on the bass using plate amps like I have done. W...

Musical Fidelity M1 DAC

I've had quite a good week in terms of sound quality improvements to the system. First, the Apple TV update has improved the sound quality of the optical digital ouput. Secondly I today became the owner of a Musical Fidelity M1 DAC After the death of my father and his funeral, on Tuesday of this wee...

iOS 4.1 for the Apple TV came out yesterday. Thankfully it now respects the playlist order you originally set up in iTunes, instead of arranging all the tracks alphabetically whether you liked it or not. I always knew it was a bug....feature my arse  The sound quality via its optical digital o...

This switch mode psu isn't bad value. Two of these ought to heat TB3/750s without breaking sweat. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/5V-40A-DC-Regulated-Switching-Power-Supply-/280539417093?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Test_Measurement_Equipment_ET&hash=item415173ca05 This might develop into a build thread, you neve...

Well I've managed to source a pair of TB3/750s But... I'm not buying them until someone advises me on how on earth you make a 5V 14A regulated DC filament supply. HT of 900V - fine, big transformer, big chokes, big caps. Filaments? Hmmmm. No point wasting money if the filaments are going t...

My head hurts, it's all been too long ago.

Brian.
That's why I used two tweeters to bring the level back up. :)

Well running at 900V @200mA with zero bias, through a 6K OPT you're looking at 50Wpc. With that voltage and current I'm assuming interstage transformer drive a ruddy great anode choke and parafeed would have to be the order of the day. That's lots of expensive iron :( But its nice to dream. Isn't it...

TB3/750

Since some of us are getting into big ass scary valves, here's a lovely looking transmitter valve- the Philips TB3/750. I'm too scared and poor to do anything with it, but it sure looks the biz for those of us with the experience to try it. A proper Flash Gordon valve, if ever I saw one. Mind you, t...

I'm still trying to get my head round the cross-over you are using where the series capacitor is about the same as the tweeter capacitance. I'll give it a go anyway and adjust the parallel resistor to set the cross-over frequency and see what happens. Brian. It's all down to the parallel resistor, ...
