Because it's a new (and IMHO poorly implemented in the first few weeks) system I am allowed to send a copy of the receipt for the matter to be settled without payment of any fine.

So, I went to the Aldi shop again, and in the car park there are notices (hard to read unless you get close) that instructs one to enter your registration number on a terminal inside the store. Good news, I'm at Mums today, and although she said the Aldi receipt was lost, I've managed to find it.
The receipt was timed at 15:49 and I was timed out of the car park at 15:54.
So I will contact Aldi customer services and see what they say.
