Re: ECL82 SE
Right. I've been round in my usual circles of indecision with this. I spent quite a lot of time working out physical arrangements in AutoCAD as it's tricky squeezing so many chokes in to a compact space. Then I worried about proximity of all the iron and wondered if I really need to breadboard it. T...

Re: C3g Aikido Phono
A question for Nick. IIRC you mentioned when I popped round that you use ceramic caps to ground the input phonos - I used film as that's what I had to hand - are ceramics a better choice for this application? Does it make any difference?

Re: C3g Aikido Phono
The PCBs arrived yesterday so first job was to replace the RIAA filter board. Using my DMM on VAC (no point me trying to do it with a scope!) and it looks like there's 1mV less with the new board. The volume really does need to be all the way up now with no music playing to hear the hum. Nice. Next ...

Re: OK…so I’m on wi’ summat
Is vintage silver mica good? Good question. I bought some big Russian silver mica caps years ago when Russian caps were still dirt cheap on ebay. The only time I found a use for them was in a high pass filter in front of the 45SET I'm using now and they were pretty horrid, the sound seemed broken s...

Impressive Ray, looks like a commercial unit.
I can't remember, did you use Front Panel Express to 3D print the front cover?

And could you hear any difference? I'm guessing not as you didn't comment?

Very odd things happening Steve, good you've sorted it.
I don't think I'd be able to resist trying the 80uF after the stacked lytics, to see if it sounds better than the electrolytics as the last cap in the audio circuit.

Re: Directly Heated 1619 SET
Absolutely. DIY audio, particularly, is a deeply personal thing with lots of compromises.

Re: Directly Heated 1619 SET
Indeed Paul.
I wouldn't use MoFo over 45s if I had just one choice. But I use 45s for mid and treble, MoFo for bass and class D for sub. Seems to be the best of all worlds. So far.
