Apparently the first of many - the listing makes interesting reading. Anyone live in or near Austin Texas?

Re: OT:New radio project...
I'm everyone's friend! However, you're thinking about this the wrong way (IMHO). Keep the radio original and get a pantry transmitter like a Spitfire or AMT-3000 (I have one of each). Feed that with the DAC, Then you can have whatever you want on multiple radios in the house and control it with the ...

Re: Solder
I'm becoming Portuguese.
Oh, and if you use lead-free (RoHS) solder, it's a bitch. Higher melting point (5 to 20C more) so many conventional irons don't reflow it properly and even then, it's difficult to know if a joint is good by visual inspection as they're all "dull"...

Re: OT:New radio project...
R66s were only made in '56 and '57 - you need to check the serial number to be sure.
The valve lineup is standard for the time - DK96/DF96/DAF96/DL96 - the valves are cheap and plentiful.

OT:New radio project...
An artist friend is 60 in September, so I've found him a Roberts R66 radio in dark blue and immaculate condition considering that it too is 60 years old. This particular model dates from 1957 according to the serial number, the year of my friend's birth. R66s are my favourite Roberts radios... A few...

Re: 6B4G - The Resurrection Shuffle
Can you do me the article Jack? Will do. I fly back to Blighty tonight (1:30AM tomorrow actually) so it might be Thursday before I can do it... Apologies. Got back to UK yesterday and searched everywhere for the stack of Linear Audio mags, just for SWMBO to remind me that they are indeed in Dubai a...

Re: 6B4G - The Resurrection Shuffle
Merlin Blencoe's power supply book is out of print now (seen Jack is looking for a copy on DIYAudio) but Merlin once posted it was because there were so many errors in it he wasn't happy with it... There's not even a PDF around :( I never trust most stuff in books, unless it's AoE. I forget stuff a...

Re: 6B4G - The Resurrection Shuffle
Been looking at the maths required to calculate R and C snubber values for mains TX secondaries and how to measure interwinding capacitance and transformer leakage inductance accurately so that reasonable calculations can be made  I'll need to blow the dust out of the scope and sig gen then....

Re: Dacs, kits or bought?
I think you need to look at more than the length of the I2S tracks, for example, what the output from the microprocessor looks like jitter-wise. Using the Soekris DAC I'm working on as an example: the DIY version has I2S isolation/reclocking on its inputs, prior to the microprocessor but on the OEM...

Re: Dacs, kits or bought?
...no need to reclock. It depends on what you mean by "no need"; generally, providing you constrain the length of your I2S connections it will work but there are SQ improvements to be had with jitter reduction via something like the DIY fifo reclocking solutions that are available, pionee...
