Cheers James, very helpful.

Cant track down a circuit dia. or schematic of the Young dac, asking about to see which are the analogue stage related caps on the board.

Next DIY upgrade? Recapping my Dac... (big pic alert!)

ola.. Dipped my DIY toes into dac upgrades recently and have been extremely chuffed with the result. :) More to come though and looking for some advice, thanks. From advice and info on t'internet...Did two things: In my Dac PSU, I swapped out the Teddy Pardo regulator board with a much lower impedan...

From one Owsten virgin to another... It's a lot of fun. Went to my first meet recently and you couldn't meet a nicer bunch of guys. Just like minded guys sharing a hobby they enjoy. I'm not a DIY valve kinda guy (my thing is computer audio) but having heard the different kit down there my own system...

I always went with the idea of not messing up the original sound, no upsampling, dithering any of that stuff. A recent wet Sunday afternoon I tried all the upsampling options in my server/Jriver setup, played through my Dac which can do up to 32/384. Short answer... As you said Steve, upsampling can...

Hi Paul, to be honest I wanted the transformer mains feed to the music making bits as untouhed as possible. The conditioner is only to isolate the switched mode bits of kit in there (TV box, router etc) from the ampp, dac and server. Not had alot of success with power conditioning with audio kit, AV...

Hardwired balanced mains transformer install (pic heavy!)

Having heard a balanced power supply in my system at a AOS get together at mine, the upgrade to my system really made me realise what my next step was. It really was a no brainer. Balanced power suplies work and they work really well. I didn't realise my mains was so bad and how detrimental an effec...

The Rega speakers I run have stepped up with every upgrade ive put in, not thought to upgrade them...until I heard the Edingdales... My next speaker for sure, was just a bit concerned about them working in less than massive rooms. Been through a couple of the speaker threads here where some folks ha...

I thought Gregg your demo was one of the highlights.. With the Spanish Harlem track the bass was maybe a wee bit overblown, but the qualities of the speaker and system still came through. The imaging was top notch I thought, when the shaker kicked in on that track it sounded completely convincing an...

Discovered something similar (as in 32bit audio being better) but from a different angle. The new Dac does up to 32/384, anything I've had previously only went as far as 24bit. I use a windows based server running Jriver, and have always set it to output the highest Bitdepth my Dac could take which ...

I think theres something going on with the "signal" feed as well, probably in the analogue domain?

I've always attributed any differences in USB to the clean/dirty 5V power feed..but even isolating the 5V feed, cables sound different through the same Dac.

Odd!

subjectively, I'd always put any difference with digital kit down to it NOT just being 1's and 0's.... I believe there's an analogue component to USB that perhaps we don't fully understand yet. I was at Ali's when we heard USB cables making a difference, question is why? In my own dabbling I've isol...

Comparing DSD to 24/384 PCM (even 24/192) didn't see what the fuss was about tbh.

Reading this last post reminded me of how great that track was, infact how great most of the music was played. I tried to get some info of the music played on the day, but my memory 2 days on is a bit suspect. Already bought "Below the Bassline" and some more Big Jim Sulllivan stuff...but ...
