Re: My Swansong speaker build

Ah! One reason I need a new winter build project to keep my mind active and help not slipping into dementia.

Re: My Swansong speaker build

I forgot to mention that during the above mini gathering I commented that I thought that folk whose goal was to reproduce a live performance in their home was a bit of a folly and unachievable in an ordinary domestic environment. Nick replied that to a large extent he agreed but it depended what typ...

Re: My Swansong speaker build

How's it going now you've lived with the speakers for a while Colin? Ray, apologies for not replying to you earlier, but as I noted in your SLOB speaker build thread I have been rather preoccupied lately and not really spent much (if any) time on the forum. Anyway to answer your query in a single w...

Re: SLOB project

A bit late posting Ray but I have been preoccupied with my 'Swansong' speakers and have now started a new winter build project, and no not another pair of speakers. Shame about the staining from the polyurethane glue, but as you say most the lower part of the SLOB speakers particularly the bass sect...

Re: Purifi-based monitor - options

Not sure you are aware of this Troel's speaker design. But, if not you may find helpful regards measured performance and XO design of the Purifi driver in a small studio monitor speaker similar to what you are doing

Re: My Swansong speaker build

Just wanted to post up my heartfelt thanks to Scott and Chris (aka chris661) without their help and expertise this project would never have got off the ground and I am convinced would not have turned out as well as it has. THANKS GUYS. :occasion5: :notworthy:

Re: My Swansong speaker build

Just caught up on the postings after the very successful weekend. As you may guess I haven't been on-line until this morning, when I have been ordering the upgrade components for the passive filter and have now just had the time to log on to the forum before I slip back into my listening room to fur...

Re: Speaker cables

Thanks Nick, don't know what went wrong with the links, they were copied using ctrl'C' and then posted using ctrl 'V' direct from the web pages. Never mind sorted now.

Re: My Swansong speaker build

Aye Ant they are rather large beasts and make my Edingdale speakers look quite small.
However, if you can get on board the missus then your halfway there. Just get her involved in choosing the finish is what I've learned.

Re: Speaker cables

Ant, I used to use the very same Moster XP cable when I first started making speakers and ignored all the negative feedback on the net at the time. Thought they were very good. I remember very clearly once when Nick brought over a new build 300B amp he had made for a client of mine in Italy that had...

Re: My Swansong speaker build

To be honest guys, it's a relief they sound so good in the present configured set up, having spent quite some effort and time building and designing them (with Scott's help one must add) as well as quite some financial investment. But they have the potential to be the best speakers Scott and I have ...

Re: My Swansong speaker build

Speakers in place now in my listening room and hooked up to Scott's 1st pass filter for the midrange and tweeter. How do they sound........... :headbang: and that's without the bass drivers hooked up. Scott has done a super job of the filter. Just now awaiting young Chris (aka chri...

Re: SLOB project

BTW, how was the cider Colin? Very good Ray. I'm not really a cider drinker, prefer a real ale, but that Shippy's brew was rather quaffable. Particularly liked the cloudy one that reminded us of when last we visited Chedder Gorge and bought some local scrumpy to take home. Lynn loved it to, but we ...
