Re: Nothing In Particular

Mi dad didnt have a marking gauge. Either that, or his has done the same disappearing act as mine... Thats the most probable explanation. So another trip out, this time to toolstation. Where i am, there is a screwfix and a toolstation next door to each other which is handy, if one hasnt got somethin...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Been doing work on the 2 chassis for daves 300b amps this week, which has turned into a series of unfortunate events First thing to do was to plane the stock down to the right thickness, so got the planer/thicknesser out. Which promptly popped a bearing on the bottom shaft.... Luckily, there is a be...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Fell even further into sad git territory. I wanted a mint copy of level 42, so went on discogs for the first time to buy one. Strangely i havent used discogs before to buy anything, ive only looked at the site for info. Of course to buy you have to have an account, so i duly did that. There is a thi...

Re: Cartridge advice

Dont pay 600 quid for an slc, it aint worth it. It sound almost identical to my at150 sa and the vm540ml. It has maybe a tiny bit more extension at the top end, quite nice and open, a little tiny bit more presence in the midrange than the 540, on par with 150sa. A gnats more detailed than the 150, o...

Re: Turntable out of storage!

I put a shelf up for record player months ago, 6 months later theres a pile of cds on it and the record players are in the other room not connected. CD’s sound good though your amps because of the excessive distortion  I accept that 🙂.. but why is my records sound poor in comparison Double th...

Re: Turntable out of storage!

Its just as easy to fall into the same trap with vinyl though I disagree, with vinyl the mechanical nature of it means there are loads of obvious problem areas that can be addressed to give better results (as the rest of the post goes on to say). With digital it seems far more a case of having to i...

Re: Turntable out of storage!

Its just as easy to fall into the same trap with vinyl though, although i suppose there more scope to make engineering tolerances tighter, put more effort into resonance control, isolation, tracking performance on the arm side (linear, pivoted and offset/non offset, bearings, ect), speed stability. ...

Interesting bearing on it, conical stylus would work nicely in it, it doesnt care how it sits in the groove.
