And here's the beast ! One board is upside down as otherwise i couldn't get them side by side on the Denon heatsink On the back of the top board you can see the 2 power supply decoupling caps connected direct to output transistors. The red thing between them is the output inductor so i don't need na...

Adding these bits, particularly the wet tants made great inpovements to the sound. Things became much crisper and more solid. The amp changed from an interesting experiment which had some characteristics i liked to a contender. All much to my surprise. I suspect over the years Les at Avondale has di...

So once i had a working amp i decided to see what difference some mods would make(i had wound output inductors as per the instructions on the Avondale NCC200 schematic). First up i replaced the input coupling cap from 10uF electrolytic to a polyester 10uF film cap i had. I also bypassed the onboard ...

That: http://www.neilmcbride.co.uk/jknamps.html ('Click here for pdf file of the amp circuit diagram') And this: Naim schematic here: http://www.acoustica.org.uk/t/naim/poweramp_pix/NAP250%20schematic.jpg .... are very traditional circuits actually, like something straight out of the mid 1970's. Bu...

I'd be interested to see details of any DIY PSU suitable for these Naimish amp modules. Preferably high quality to rival, or exceed the Naim hi-cap versions. I think the naim hi-cap is for a pre-amp rather than a power amp. There is info on naim pre-amp and power supply upgrades/builds on the acous...

paul i would guess richard is saying its different to his set amp..
Indeed. Not only do they have different drivers; they also have had to put up with me interfering with them.

Hi Paul I do not want to make that judgement as i'm not sure it would be useful and might even prejudice further investigations. What will be more meaningfull to me is what i end up listening to. At the moment i like having both. Just as different people have different tastes, my own taste is not st...

Simon - This amp is not forward sounding compared to my 300B amps or the power amp in a NAD 3020A. transformer, bridge rectifier, 2 off 4700uF caps, heat sink, case, connectors, etc are all being used from the Denon donor. So it's not a high spec power supply. I have recently clip leaded in another ...

What i decided to do was buy a kit off ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H-140-Audio-Power-Amplifier-Kit-For-DIY-AMP-80W-80W-C55-/120645118358?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_Amplifiers&hash=item1c17026996#ht_4721wt_954 It is actually most similar to the NCC200 Avondale audio circuit than a...

Naimish style power amp

In case anyone is interested i thought i'd post about my experince with this I'd been thinking about building one for a while as i thought it would be interesting to have something, which to my mind was at the opposite end of the spectrum to what i have (300B SET). And be able to compare in the same...

i remember hearing an auditory illusion some years ago when auditioning CD players. Some actually sounded like they were playing faster than others (as in when a record player is at a different speed). I thought the faster sounding player made the music more exciting. I was told this was impossible ...

Al, its a marketing term used by the Linn/Naim sales drones to shift boxes...foot tapping dems where the salesman would boogie along with the music to 'enforce' or indicate the 'better' system... Its also a way of drawing people's attention to the rhythm (if that's the right word) of the music. If ...
