I understand what you are saying Mike and it certainly applies to SS monolith regulators with very low o/p impedances where large caps are not recommended. Actually its more the ESR of the o/p cap that causes problems. With a smaller cap on the o/p I found the sound weak, bass depth and midrange cla...

I was moved to experiment with cap values to make the first rev of the board stable in my amp Mike, ending up with SS rectifer > 100uF > 75R > EChoke > 250uF. I dumped the 10H choke. The 75R served as a dropped resistor and also damped out the instability I had. The 250uF cap improved the sound subj...

I ended up with rectifier - 120uf - resistor- echoke - 250uf AFAIK....I had instability issues and hum at one point, it's all a few pages back in the thread linked to earlier. Max, you might want to consider bypassing the choke if not already done so, and upping the dropper resistor value...

Max, going back to the original thread on the Echoke boards I had issues with stability and ringing on the output and Mike also found an issue that was cured by placing a damping resistor in-line with the board. I don't know if it's the same issue but may be worth investigating.... http://www.audio-...

Hi Steve, Sorry, on reflection, I'm not going to make the June event. I've just got too much on around this date and none of my mates are free to come along and stick up for me if Ed decides to biff me on the nose 'cos I don't like Cpt Beefheart   Awww shucks I didn't mean it ol' buddy.....

Good one Richard, you're getting the hang of it. Check out the surplus yards for old barn doors and mount your stuff on that, seems to work wonders for the sound quality! :D

If you don't need to cart it around stick to a small desktop...

Transfer over your mouse, keyboard etc and pick up a cheap PC from Ebuyer....
