Re: The Quackery Thread
Look what I just found. "USG-1 digital cable for high end DACs without a need for the 5V rail. Amazing sound!" https://scontent.fman2-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/17757396_396096850776549_5778664378200868613_n.jpg?oh=75ee86bd8e84fad1d16d24f313b52807&oe=59598C49 Looks like a nice jumprope t...

Re: Hot and dry holiday destination.
By the way - if you are over 60 and capable of listenining to Tijuana Taxi without smiling, you have no soul. FIFY Bah. Dave's only 45, and I've loved Herb Alpert as long as I can remember. I even saw a tribute band in San Francisco once. They were called simply 'Herb', and they were magnificent. T...

Re: Hot and dry holiday destination.
Some of the finest recordings and tight (if bland) musicianship is Bert Kaempfert (same easy listening genre as Herb Alpert). A German Hi-Fi mag produced an album sized 45rpm of his most famous songs and it is by far the best recording in my collection. Even the standard 33rpm is astonishingly good...

The Thorns can be had from Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thorns-Special/dp/B0000C6JZZ/ref=sr_1_3?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1491844962&sr=1-3&keywords=the+thorns I've linked through to the Special Edition - basically it's all the same songs with just acoustic arrangements. Music Magpie a...

Re: The Prodigal Danelectro
Ah, one bit of good news -- the bridge wasn't meant to be screwed on in three places, the two upper screws are intended to be underneath it. So there's that. However, one of those two upper screws *was* intended to be the grounding point for a wire from the volume/tone pots, and I can't for the life...

Re: My very first project: Amp Maker WF-55 valve guitar amp
Might have been a good idea to leave enough money in the budget for this month to buy a guitar cable, but I was distracted by a shiny new reissue of Matthew Sweet's 'Girlfriend' from MOV... Matthew Sweet? Wasn't he in The Thorns, along with Shawn Mullins and Pete Droje? Their album is great. Shawn ...

Re: The Prodigal Danelectro
First, a burst of joy upon finding that the case still had hairs from my old cats stuck to it. Then a moment of concern upon finding the lock on the case is loose and has been broken (and the keys are missing). ...that sinking feeling upon realising that the guitar inside has some sort of residue on...

Re: My very first project: Amp Maker WF-55 valve guitar amp
Thanks, all. I have to admit I think it looks a little better in person, but I just wanted everything to work, so I was more focused on making good connections than a nice layout. My Danelectro will be back with me tomorrow, and join a grand tradition of prodigal guitars of which I first became awar...

Re: Edmundo Ros
Oddly enough, there was an Edmundo Ros single in the batch of 78s we bought this weekend. Too burnt out from soldering to go see which one though.

Re: My very first project: Amp Maker WF-55 valve guitar amp
Well, I've finally done it: behold, my very first attempt at soldering! This is the completed turret board for my guitar amplifier. Dave has graciously assured me it looks better than his first project, but I know he's only trying to make me feel better. Still, all the connections check out, and I f...

Re: What Are You Listening To Right This Minute?
I just unsealed a never-opened original pressing (from 1985!) of one of my favorite records of all time and fired it up. I already knew the mix on this record was a bit shrill in the high end, but what a thrill to finally have it on vinyl again. Sometimes we love things for sentimental reasons. Also...
