Interesting discussion chaps. I guess it just goes to show how important it is that we try the alternatives for ourselves. Now when I went from the passive to the valve reg I didn't notice much difference. Going from AC heaters to DC heaters using a simple PI filter made little difference also, but ...

Hi Andrew,

Thanks, that's pretty clear. Just to sure though, the large resistors in series are R4/11?

What sort of difference would you expect the larger cap at C4/10 to make out of interest? Is this the signal return to earth, and a quality cap is needed here?

what the format of such a meet is? We all turn up with varying amounts of kit, and setup round the perimeter of the room. After we've all caught up with each other and admired each other's latest piece of mdf Steve calls the proceedings to order and each system has three tracks played before moving...

Any good B+B and Pub recommendations? The troops stopped at the Travelodge on the A1 last time: http://www.travelodge.co.uk/find_a_hotel/hotel/hotel_id/124/Doncaster . Rooms are currently £40 a night, breakfast at the neighbouring Little Chuff is extra. It's a short drive to Owston, and the nearest...

Ah, you're going cap input Colin?

Yep, concur with the above, that's all I did - use the heat of the iron. The silk charred a little close to where the iron had been but nothing to worry about.

Thanks Stephen, that's a bit clearer. I'll have a look in RDH4 and see if I can find some more in there.

That would be great Andrew, but when I checked Farnell they only had the US stock, and though they are only tuppence a go there's a £15.95 delivery charge. RS has them for 6p a pop.

I hope to try some new ones out from Rapid, but I got home late tonight and so no time for experimentation, will tomorrow be OK? cheers, -- Andrew No problem at all, I'm not in any rush. Happy to wait until you're happy :). I'd prefer to use Rapid (cos they're cheap :D) but they don't seem to do th...

No problem Steve, let me know when you want to pop over.

I've also got a pair of Audio Note 470nF coppers which I've been meaning to compare against the Ruskies but never got around to it. Not sure my hearing's good enough anyway. You're welcome to give them a go too.
