Re: How could anybody be THAT good at ANYTHING ??

Oh yeah...I think this is closer to where Nick is coming from in terms of tutelage...but as far as referring to any given note is concerned, I'm with DTB on this, i.e always refer to the key sig..no such thing as a # in a b sig. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCyNnAMEUXQ I still haven't mastered th...

Re: How could anybody be THAT good at ANYTHING ??

In our 'western tempered ' tuning system Maj3 intervals are slightly # IIRC from music theory lessons about 25 years ago. Brother Ed's fretless could play that interval true (accurate) . that reminded me of David Pinnegar?...hope I have the name correct.....he came and went a couple of summers ago ...

Re: How could anybody be THAT good at ANYTHING ??

you chaps are making me unsure of what day it is... are you taking about a 5 string bass with a bottom B string added to a 4 string EADG bass or are you talking about a 7 string guitar with indeterminate tuning????? btw: my 4 string EADG Fender Jazz has a million more notes than DTB's( some of the n...

Re: General Raspberry Pi stuff

grrrrrr sassenfrassencursinclaudehopper grrr It's only £2 or £3 more than the one I just bought(the 64gb version) and looks very much like the one I should have bought. I think I might buy one and clone the current one for piece of mind. much cheaper than the ssd and usb caddy I was contemplating. o...

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth

FWIW, Nick, the 5-year-old i5 laptop that's running the FIR processing, plus a few IIR filters in the bass, is using 2% of one CPU core to do everything at 192kHz. It doesn't need much processing power, but it does need to have the capability to work in this way. Chris not strictly relevant, but I ...

Re: what are you doing ?

Can you elaborate on the use of plumbers flux Greg?

I only ask because my historic understanding is that it's the most toxic substance on the planet(after Marmite), and it caused alarm bells to ring.

Re: General Raspberry Pi stuff

that's interesting Simon...I was under the impression it was already long in the tooth... I was going to implement this: https://www.stewright.me/2019/10/run-raspbian-from-a-usb-or-ssd-on-a-raspberry-pi-4/ and my understanding(possibly naively) was that it would boot from the usb stick.... as you ca...

Re: esp32 soc computers

here's one a bit alien to audio but I thought Id ask anyway... My move to esp32 processors with inbuilt wifi has not been entirely successful, particularly the models with a sim800 attachment(mobile 2G communications). In a nutshell some models are more difficult to use than others. The problem is t...

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth

Ahh ha..much obliged, thanks.

Coming from a strictly user perspective, having used it just to emphasise instruments good points or dismiss their failings, bringing them(the instruments) further forward or further back in the mix.

I will read, much to learn there is!

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth

I just had a flashback to the seventies....I remember having a conversation with a chum(he had Mitchel hydraulic reference and quad33/303 and b&w dm2s) he was arguing that amplifiers with tone controls were getting away from what the music should sound like. Like many people at the time he was looki...

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth

The horn (or something like a large area ESL given the above comments about wavelength) gradually couples the small driver to the air in a way that the driver effectively looks much larger. I think of this as enabling the mouth of the horn to act as a new driver of much larger dimensions. This can ...

Re: Mofo

Any ideas ? if you are using Michael's circuit: the fact that all you did in the end was re-bias lends pointing the finger at P1. The circuit R4-P1-R3-R2 would only mess the bias if there were a regular intermittent break. So, dry joint, P1, or the power supply itself was pulsing. I think, but I ha...
