Re: EAC beginner question

....heck even iTunes does a perfectly good job! :D Anyone fancy testing this one out ? I have just ripped a CD twice, once using iTunes, and once using EAC. With iTunes I ripped to WAV. With EAC I ripped straight to compressed, which in this case is FLAC. You have to bear in mind that EAC rips to W...

Re: EAC beginner question

I have trouble with EAC. Some years ago, Chris (Stratmangler) did me a set of written instructions (with diagrams) and only by referring to them do I complete the process. They are rather worn and dog eared now, so another set would be nice. :) This any use? It's how I set up the directory structur...

Re: What Are You Listening To Right This Minute?

The Bros. Landreth CD distribution looks to a shambles, Ed. Their 2 CD releases are also available for download on Qobuz. I did try to get hold of their 2nd CD, but it's currently only available from their web store, and I'd have bought it but for it working out at nearly £30.00  The download...

Re: WAV vs FLAC

any chance of going back to the original post/question...this thread is becoming a runaway train.... Flac has now been with us in the mainstream for 15 years......if the WAV is better than FLAC argument had any mileage don't you think we'd have heard about it by now? maybe we have and I've just mis...

Was the RasPi also connected to Nick's DAC?
Yes, should have added that !
How is it connected?
USB or SPDIF?

Diet - Nick got in there just before me. The bit about the isolating transformers on the SPDIF is interesting.

Re: WAV vs FLAC

I haven't tried 'serving' WAV yet. I have found that a CD played direct to the Longdog DAC has more tone and spatial depth in the upper mids and treble than a FLAC of the same disc ( EAC>LMS>WiFi>Pi ) played via the server. In the bass end, or on 'PRAT' it's neck & neck or poss the server slightly ...

Re: MY own OB speaker project

I'm a bit late to the party, but first off, thanks Colin for arranging the get together - it was great to see everyone, and a good time was had by all. Special thanks to the catering dept. (Lynne) too - despite having other arrangements and being elsewhere she had prepared sustenance for the troops ...

Re: Streaming advice needed.

The variables are multitude, Ed. The SB3 v Touch thing is purely subjective observation on my part, but it was analogue outputs on both players, using the same linear PSU switched between players and the same interconnects and amplifier input, so not instant A/B, because of the time taken to swap ca...

Re: Streaming advice needed.

I heard an obvious difference when comparing my old SB3 to my Touch - the Touch was much better sounding than the SB3. And there are plenty of folk on the forums who reckon that the RasPi players sound as good, if not better, than the Touch, so long as you go the extra mile or two with the audio int...

Re: Streaming advice needed.

Hi Ed I have piCorePlayer on the RasPi, so yes, it does have LMS and Squeezelite on it. I turn the Squeezelite off because I don't use it, and I don't want the device to appear on the control interface on my Smartphone. What prompted the shift to using the Pi for server duties is tied up with Spotif...
