Re: CV4003 / ECC82 types...

I bought a few of these Mullard cv4003 about 10 years ago. I had a friend who had contact with someone who used to buy MOD surplus by the container load from RAF Stafford. This guy had bought a pallet load and my friend bought several 100 piece boxes for £100 a time. My friend sold some on to me for...

few odd valves

Found a box with a few valves at a car boot this weekend.
Only 3 of any interest.
Namely an early Marconi MHL4 5 pin balloon envelope, and couple of rectifiers a Mazda U10 balloon and a Brimar 5Y3 octal.
If anybody could use these then PM me.
I was thinking around £8 including postage.

Re: FM

Yes I can certainly reccommend Banggood. I've bought a number of different items and always been satisfied. Their delivery is usually very quick. And yes it is possible to spend rather a lot of time on their site. A full FM stereo tuner for less than eight quid is exceptional. If anyone is inclined ...

I've not dabbled with audio for some time now but look in on this forum occasionally to check out what is going on currently. Some months ago the was some interest in those little class D switching amps available fron China at a ridiculously small price. I did play with a couple of versions myself a...

Re: 100 years today

Interesting post Paul Not exactly 100 years ago but very nearly on Feb 12th 1917 my Dad was shipwrecked off the Cornish coast. He was an 18year old Merchant seaman and his post was a Radio or more correctly for 1917 a Wireless Operator. Following the loss of the Titanic an increasing number of ships...

Thanks for that Nick Your explanation certainly makes sense. The only reason I posted on this subject was I wondered if the circuit had some relevance or might be useful for filament supplies but it doesn't seem to be the case. I remember one control panel which switched on a motor and then switched...

Ta for the reply Dave. The little modules I have only supply a voltage to the contactor coil. Obviously they condition the 24v supply in some way but why on earth would they need an infra red photo coupler. I've also found that if I connect one to a 24v AC supply I get the same AC voltage out. I won...

Mystery Component.

At work recently after the installation of some new equipment I scrapped a redundent control panel. This contained six motor contactors used to switch a series of 3 phase motors. Nothing unusual here as the contactors were quite standard with 3 contacts for phase an a fourth contact used in conjunct...

Shane, Yes of course you know what the product is don't you. I have a couple more horror stories regarding equipment we've installed recently. One in particular would interest Paul. I'm not sure how acceptable it is to use the forum for this sort of discussion especially as I am an infrequent user. ...

2.5kv. My Dad was a radio ham and back in the 1950s every self respecting amateur had this sort of voltage in his shack and it was treated as the norm The atmosphere used to crackle. The saying was tune for maximum smoke meaning if you could smell burning flesh (RF burns) your rig was generating a l...

I don't believe it

The company I work for on a part time basis is in the process of expanding rapidly. This has meant our power consumption has increased. Every new machine seems to come with a 5kw motor or a refrigeration unit at 12kw etc. As we are on the end of the line fed by a 100kva transformer and as consumptio...

Hi Paul Interesting to see you dabbling with Sugden SS kit. I have a Sugden A48 in the loft and felt motivated to dig it out and give it a whirl. Probably last used about 15 years ago. Surprising what you consign to the loft and then forget about. Whilst reclaiming the A48 I found a dinky little Aur...

Alex. I will find a few more cv2024s for you. Some 5 or 6 years ago lots of these appeared on ebay and other sites. I knew someone who bought 3 pallet loads of these from an MOD surplus contractor and at the time he was selling unopened boxes of these at £100 a box ie. £1 each. A friend of mine boug...

Hi Alex I have a few more of the CV4024. Is there anything else you are looking for I have loads of small signal 9 pins of various types/makes. Remember reading your posts when you first published the RH 84 but never got around to building one in fact have not built anything for around 5 years. Also...
