Re: MY own OB speaker project

You're most welcome to pop over and have a listen when you fell well enough from your stomach bug issue. I can easily separate the coax driver from the super tweeter and bass drivers so you here the coax on it own on the baffles. The invite to pop over to Topps Towers and have a good listen to thes...

Re: MY own OB speaker project

Nice work ! So is that the coax unit in the middle with the tweeter ? Does the HF bit fire through the big dustcap ? Yes Mark, and the horn does fire through the large centre dust cap. Monacor don't appear to publish a lot of data regards the design of the units but what they do publish can be foun...

Re: MY own OB speaker project

Some further minor upgrades with the 3-ways. Yesterday I drilled holes in the centre baffles and installed the T90A super tweeters. I machined the holes such the tweeters would be gripped in place with 3mm thick 'O' rings. For those that can remember the Sachiko speakers I built for Andrew, Phil mac...

Fair enough.
Have you ( Colin ) got a link to the horns ? - I've only seen a picture. Would be interested to know the expansion frequency.

Good effort !
So remind me, what's the bass unit for this ?
Mark,
they are the Monacor SP-382PA, probably one of Monacors cheapest 15" bass units. They are wired in parallel.

Re: MY own OB speaker project

OK I'll kick off of what I can remember of the weekend meet, hopefully Andrew, Nick and Chris will contribute with comments when they have the time. Andrew arrived the Friday evening and we fired up the 3-way OB's with my 300B SET's. His initial reaction was not as positive as I hoped. He thought th...

Re: MY own OB speaker project

Thanks for the interest guys and best wishes for a successful day but, Oh dear I feel like I'm on the spot now with coming up with a positive result. But what will be will be. Ali, Yes your experience with OB's would have been most useful but family comes first mate so you're doing right by not trav...

Re: MY own OB speaker project

For those that are still following this thread, I have this morning finished the new 540mm wide x 300mm high baffles for the compression horn tweeters. Panels in the same 25mm chipboard and skinned in TAMO ASH veneer and finished with 3-coats of satin acrylic varnish. http://www.audio-talk.co.uk/col...

Re: MY own OB speaker project

The compression drivers and horns were delivered earlier in the week: http://www.audio-talk.co.uk/colin/HORNS.JPG The horns are quite well injection moulded in glass fibre and are 8mm thick, weigh 1.3kg each and the exposed facing and inside the horn surfaces have a rather decorative speckled matt f...

Re: "The Flatback Banned" OmniMet

As you say, the other Monacor tweeters are 10W and only 90dB efficient, so might not be loud enough with the bass/mid drivers. However I wouldn't say no to your offer. I'll find something to use with them that's for sure. :D. Shame about the chrome effect dustcap though; soooooooo late 70s :mrgreen...

Re: "The Flatback Banned" OmniMet

The red FR trace is virtually identical to that of the Monacor pp tweeter I have. Not exactly Steve. If you check out the Monacor driver FR plot it has a (approx.) 5dB suck-out from 5kHz - 9kHz that is not apparent on the Troels plot. http://www.monacor.co.uk/typo3temp/GB/222915dca2.png But neverth...

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth

Still also waiting for the quartet of FX120 drivers from the dealer in France - will email them later this week to check on current prognosis. Mark, I'm not at all surprised you are still awaiting the drivers. From what Scott has told me, Fostex are not making any new FX120 drivers, and haven't for...

Re: MY own OB speaker project

Yes Indeed it was a very fruitful and successful afternoon. I have to give my thanks to Scott for coming over from Hull even though he was not well. However I think he left feeling a lot better in himself than when he arrived, thanks perhaps to Lynn's home cooked pastry's and good few Stepsils to ca...
