"Budget" CD Transport for USB DAC ?

Hi Folks, not been here for ages - had a career change, then retired, moved to the North Yorks countryside, set up a workshop and started building guitars in my spare time ! So been away from all things Hifi and valve for a while - apart from building some more guitar amps and joining another band l...

Re: Digital Scope for valve amp use

Following your various recommendations a shiny new digital scope arrived a couple of days ago from Farnell’s. What was quickly apparent was that my old battery powered signal generator is no longer working properly Any recommends for an accurate yet simple audio sig gen ? DIY would be fine too. Are ...

I'm sure this haas been asked before but having just lost/broken my old CRT scope in a recent house move, I am on the hunt for a decent digital scope to use for signal checking in my ( mainly guitar...

Re: Park 50 copy

Hi, Firehazard - the treble bypass cap has gone through various values from 500pf to 100pf. To be honest I quite like it without and have just got the cap hanging by one leg at moment - I think that's due to the V30s in the cab being so bright/middly really. Fine with Les Paul's and PRSs but too ice...

Thanks Jack, Rob - I like both and its the blend which is good. I often mic both up and record a blend of the two - if I can sort the phase issues out! (I'm still very much learning how to record well in my small home studio) I'd really like a cab loaded with 4 old G12s but had a couple of V30s spar...

Hi Rob, yes the 12AY7 can be really good in V1. I built a clone of the Fender Pro ( 5EA i think from memory ) and it had a 12AY7 in V1. That was a very nice amp. For speakers - I am using either a diy 4x12 with 2 V30's and 2 G12H's or a DIY 1x12 Thiele ported cab I found people raving about on the A...

Hi Rob, I used the value from the Marshall model 1986 Bass as I'd liked the Kossof sound and also watched some clips of JD Simon on Youtube playing through a 1986 and loved the tone. I haven't tried 220K mix resistors instead - I might try strapping a couple of 470K's across temporarily to see what ...

Love it Rob - super job
bet it sounds wonderful.

I have to stem the amp building for a while to work on a few bits of outboard gear for my home studio.
What else have you built ?

Cheers

Hi If you have a stripped down old laptop you could install Vortexbox on it and rip CDs directly from the CD drawer to your storage, or copy across home network. I did exactly this with an old Thinkpad and it works great on my home network and responds to Squeezebox too. I copied a c. 90000 track li...

Park 50 copy

Hi all, thought the guitar players here might appreciate this one. just finished my latest project - which is a copy of a late 1960's Park 50 watt guitar amp. Combination of new old stock and new components , and using some of Mike's Living in the Past transformers too. Sounds great - but had to fit...
