Well, since Scott's Pensil design was named a few posts back, I can attest that the 12P works quite well in the Super version - not however a tiny box, and some folks might have an issue with driver centered at only 30" . With a 4" pair of trestle stands I didn't find vertical dispersion t...

A redesign complicates things. But we all know Scott to be a creative kind of guy :). In the meantime, from what we are hearing from folks who've built them, the Pensil and Super Pensil for the Alp 12P are winners. Let's not aggressively second guess Scott on this, but here I go: extrapolating what...

Colin, Chris, I am curious - when it comes to driver height we seem to prefer something closer to ear height (when seated of course). A full-range driver with good dispersion characteristics - how much is it likely to suffer by being placed 4 inches down? - Zia you may have seen my own and StevenZ'...

You can ring Alexander Graham's Bell anytime dear. Cat 5 may be the answer anyway. I've been happily using CAT5 for over 10yrs - on shorter runs even a single of the 4 twisted pairs, and have even tried some of the more exotic monster braided snakes (up to 6 runs of 4 pairs - never again, thank you...

Zia, it's in the 'Pencil' rang size wise, so a small floorstander. That's all I can say. Certainly NOT in the range of the big BVR speakers and a double mouth horn it certainly aint. Well, as noted in a prior post above, the (by now) "conventional" SuperPensil is no slouch, although the s...

making some noise with the 12Ps

as the subject line suggests, Jeff Willing and I managed to populate a couple of different enclosures with these drivers, and had a listening session this past (holiday for us) weekend we blather on about it a bit here, http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/markaudio/214512-just-ordered-set-alpair-12p-madi...

if Colin is still offering his outriggers complete with spikes, go for it

we has some done locally ( i.e. the Pacific NorthWet) - CNC milled 6mm aluminum, & powder coated, by the time you add spikes/ tiptoes / whatever, they need to sell for at least $70 per set.

working with solid

chrisb can blast together a quickie plywood box with the best of them, and maybe tart up with some veneer, but does not have the patience or skill to achieve the artistry in sold woods exemplified by Bernie or Scott Dunn

he's also wont to refer to himself in the 3rd person

Re: FH3 felt

I've started to build a pair of FH3's and don't have anything to line the area behind the speaker with the plans just say line with felt what do I use and where can I buy some? Also do I install this felt and stuffing as I assemble the speakers or or is it possible to put then afterwards. A particu...

generally that results in longer drying times - with solvent and water based paints/lacquers etc on cabinets & millwork we like to use several light coats with sanding between when appropriate

[ Didn't Steve C have the 108 in a Met so should be OK? Andrew Yep I did have a single 108EZ. That was my first Metronome. Not much bass power though so I had to use subs and use a network to keep the bass out of the 108s However a bipole will probably be much better in that department. provided ro...

is it too late to correct the usage of term "compression" chamber when referencing BLH? FLH or compression drivers have compression chambers, BLH have the room on the other side of the driver. I agree tho that FLH and BLH are completely different things that work in different ways and do d...
