Re: DIY Linear Tonearm

Ray, if I was looking for a dd deck to play with for not a massive outlay I would buy this aiwa ap2600. Especially if you haven't had a deck in years, there's absolutely no faffing to be done to set it up, plonk and play. I'd have it If I has the ready cash..... https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mp...

Re: Floods

Looking down over the dearne River from my lads school this morning, there is almost 3/4 of a miles worth of fields between the river and the nearest houses in Mexborough. Those fields are under about 15" of water across the whole 3/4 mile. It's come almost all the way up. I'm not sure wether the sl...

Re: Tubes sound better??

This is why I have stayed with the f5, I havent come across something that does things better for me across a range of music. I haven't any preference for valves or sand any more, I did have the valve blinkers on for a long time until the f5 comprehensively beat the el34 amp I was using. I then deci...

And very rarely use either. Not sure why I pay for them to be honest
Amazon is not as user friendly as Netflix Ime, but tends to have a bit better picture quality

Re: Another DIY Tonearm

Well that's the thing with the last one I did, because when I looked at the ways to implement bias I decided to put the outrigger for the bias weight on the left like a hadcock. It is on centre with the pivot, so bias pull doesn't affect azimuth and the loop the bias weight wire runs in and drops do...

Re: Another DIY Tonearm

What I mean is that all things being equal, I. E that both types of arm are adjusted properly and the azimuth is correct on the unipivot, there still seems to be a difference having the too far underslung cw with the unipivot but none with the gimbal. When riding warps they behave the same but the u...

Re: Another DIY Tonearm

You want the pivot point at record level not the counterweight. The only reason for an offset counterweight is stability and simple azimuth adjustment. Which makes azimuth very fiddly. Tried it in various designs over the years and found that the lower it is the less quick the arm is to react and re...

Re: 401 rebuild

Feet finally arrived midweek so it's complete now. I've also done some work on the motor unit as it was getting right on my tits. There was a barely audible pitch variation, that once heard, can't be unheard. Watching the strobe, the markings were moving forward and backward erratically, but slowly....
