Re: what are you doing ?

Set up my old mac mini upstairs out of the way. I got the kids a gaming pc for Christmas and used the keyboard mouse and screen for that, then put the mac away intending to set it back up at some point. Before all this kicked off I'd picked up a keyboard from a charity shop along with an old monitor...

Re: what are you doing ?

Was using my leather work gloves, trouble with them is that they are leather palmed but material backed and I ruined the backs using the grinder. Melted through in places where the sparks hit them around the knuckles. And the rose thorns have a preternatural ability to to get me right where the hole...

Today's stuff Cut out the layers for the plinth for the lenco motor unit, that's ready for glue once the layers have been key sanded. Then, my most hated job of all..... Trimming the rose bushes. We have 3 trailing roses, all dog roses that I love when they are in flower, but they go bezerk this tim...

what are you doing ?

I don't know about you lot, but I'm already fed up and pissed off with being stuck inside these 4 walls. I suspect this is a prevalent sentiment. So what are you doing ? There are a million keyboard warriors on the interweb tapping and moaning and whining about the situation, and accomplishing the s...

Re: Corona Virus Lock Down 'Rant' Thread.

I work from home anyway, my workshop doubles as the dining room, the lathe, milling machine, drill press and various other non 'man portable' equipment set up on the workbench in the corner. Stuff that requires a lot of dust making is done outside, eg routing, cutting of wood using bandsaws, mitre s...

Not the only one Paul, son number one came home from school with a dry cough, so, following advice. us lot are going to have to stay inside for the next two weeks.
What ever is causing the cough, its most likely to have been picked up at school. Boris waited too long to shut them

Re: Latest vinyl 'finds'.

I got it because it also has 'train in the distance' on it and it's one of my favourites. Dont have the album with it on. Nice thing about this compilation is that it has 3 tracks a side on 2 discs, rather than jamming it all onto one disc. The sound is better on it than the earlier compilation I ha...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Found a denon moving coil that I like. Got an original dl301 for not much money, it's lovely. 1982 vintage, almost the same age as me. I have another 301 here that has knackered suspension, but that one gave a hint of greatness even in its sorry state, which is why I shouldn't browse ebay when bored...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Well the lathe chuck I got has proved to be anything but a bolt on fit..... The register in its adapter plate is spot on, so it goes on the original chuck backplate perfectly. But the pcd of 3 bolt holes is not the same. So they will have to be redrilled. Which will be a pain in the arse. Can't even...

Re: yet another boring one trick pony turntable build

I was very close to buying a project vc-e cleaner a few weeks ago, I didn't though I decided to stick with the knosti cleaner for now and use the money for it on getting my lathe fettled instead Can make more stuff and things that way to make some more money for a vc-e down the line. Seemed more of ...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Managed to get hold of a nice Pratt burnerd 4 jaw chuck for the hobbymat md65 lathe today. Already on an md65 backplate, so shouldn't be any fettling required, or a minimal amount if there is some. Also got a new dial guage off chronos to go with it, my old one is pretty nasty and knocked about, is ...
