Re: A Valve Preamp with Phono Stage and Tone Controls.

Sorry late to the party. Whenever I messed with tone controls ideas in recent years I found the biggest problem was the quality of the pots. And the quality of the caps. And the quality of the resistors ... I remember one I made with slider pots that was really awful ... and for some reason, it seem...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

Yesterday I returned home from Worcester on the Ural, on one of those almost magical bike rides that probably can't be repeated. Endless blue skies, but not boiling hot (for a change!). A422 / A46 to Leamington, then cut across to the A455, to then get onto a bit of The Fosse Way, from there onto Ma...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

Just to say I've had to have several more goes at this over the previous couple of weeks, as I kept getting it wrong. Has come out alright now, thanks to some advice from Devon Rims.

Re: buzzing toroid

I remember Dave Brooks (Danbury Electronics) saying once about how sometimes a toroid transformer can get a loose lamination, as the core is a long strip wound into a roll, and sometimes the outer end comes loose and vibrates. Probably due to repeated expansion and contraction. Not much you can do w...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Yep, I do have a vero spot face cutter somewhere, Late to the party, but that's what I use. Still in my toolbox. :D NB: there are different qualities of stripboard recently, some I've used was really awful, the stuff I've got from Rapid and RS has been OK, 'course the original Veroboard was the dog...

Re: Valve DAC

I got the lid on the Valve Dac yesterday. I'm a litle annoyed because I managed to get the holes cut slightly out of position so the valve sockets aren't perfectly centred below them - shoddy I say - I will have to have them re-worked with slightly larger holes, eccentrically placed with respect to...

Re: youTube blues

YTD works a treat. Are there any drawbacks I wonder? Used to use YTD then it stopped working, don't know why, thought it was being blocked somehow, that was a few years ago. I've still got it (new version) but mostly I now use a Firefox extension, the main one is: YouTube video and audio dowloader ...
