Well, I have the drivers now. I am hoping someone can point me to a supplier of felt / wadding so I can get some ordered. I am STILL undecided about what to build them out of but I wil have to make the decision in a weel or so. Many thanks,

Steve

As I suspected, the drivers are being held in UK customs, I presume so that they can dream up new ways to remove more cash out of my wallet... :(

It took them just 3 days to get from the US and they have since been languishing in some dark warehouse somewhere near the capital.

Just a thought, does anyone know a source of good quality outriggers for the FH3? I was thinking maybe something in metal. :D Colin (Toppsy) can supply them I believe. For my outriggers I bought some strips of mild steel from Wickes, sprayed them black and fitted accoustic spikes to them. To keep t...

Thanks Dave. If you, as the 'Master' as far as I am concerned think it is OK, then who am I to argue? :D

I will look into the price of the wood.

Here is a picture of the "VoFos" that Ed made. They are not veneered.

they look suspiciously like the handiwork in the Fostex MLTL's that I got from Ali?

Just my 2-penneth, but I would say Solid Ash for the FH3 speakers IMO would be OK as long as it is well seasoned and climatised indoors. Just be aware of the featured joints down the front baffle as this has a 5-deg slope. For certain type large horn speaker cabinets with lots of side area and inte...

Hmm. I have had a look around the internet and it seems the general consensus is that solid wood is no good for loudspeakers for a number of reasons, so it looks like BB ply it is. The only problem I have with that is the veneering, I have built speakers from ply before and never bothered but I do w...

Thanks Pre / ed. I was toying with the idea because It means I would not have to mess about with veneer. I am not that clued up but I know that ash is a dense hardwood, but as said it may not be technically as good. all the joints (well, all 4 for the sides) would be feathered which is not a problem...

Hi all. I have had some thoughts and was wondering if anyone has made the cabinets out of oak or possibly ash actually I would prefer ash for a couple of reasons; it looks nice, it doesn't tend to split like oak, even french oak, and also it is cheaper)? The reason I ask is that I have access to a l...

Steve, if you are going for the paper cones then do consider the CSS EL70. This is a tweeked version of the original CHP70 made specific for CSS by MarkAudio. From what I read of this driver many prefer it to the original cream coned CHP70. The original CHP70 is only available in limited numbers fr...

Thanks for the replies so far, very helpful. I am currently using Gennexxa LX-5's (the one with the Linæum tweeter). I have in the past used FE103's in small RLH as well as 206's in Sachiko's and also others sch as OB's. I would not describe myself as a bass head really but I do like a decent bass ...

Hi all. Can anyone say which drivers are the best to use here? ie. Alpair 7 or CHP 70? And I realise this is very subjective, but how would those who have heard them describe the sound? Many thangs guys. :D

Bugger, should come here more often! I have missed it now. Loreena is absolutely fantastic, I can lose myself for an entire evening in her music.
