Re: what pcb design software

For really basic stuff I use an old copy of Copper Connection but I'm trying to pick up KiCAD. I chose it because its free and popular but primarily because there's a guy at work who's a bit of a whizz on it so help is at hand.

Re: The Other 13E1 SE-OTL

The part was 3D printed in Graphite (SLS) and it seems there are various options available for applying a finish to such parts; https://www.3dhubs.com/knowledge-base/post-processing-sls-printed-parts/ That said, looking at it again this morning the part is blacker in the flesh than in the pictures s...

Was my previous post helpful?
Possibly Greg, I'll give some spray paints a try on some scrap 3D printed parts.

Re: The Other 13E1 SE-OTL

In a perfect scenario I would like to have made the toroid collars in Olive wood to match the front panel but the shape is complex (you should see the recessing underneath!) so it would have been an expensive CNC routing job.

Matt black spray? Stuff used for woodburners etc. should hold up well, but pretty much any decent quality spray should be fine.
I've already considered spray painting it but my experience with these sort of plastics isn't good.

Re: The Other 13E1 SE-OTL

I'm just working on the finishing touches to this amp build so I can enjoy it without sitting there thinking 'I must finish that amp...' I had a collar to tidy up the toroid covers 3D printed, one or two little flaws in the printing but overall I think it's a good job. Would have liked it in black b...

Re: PCM to DSD conversion

Not relevant to Ed's conundrum but just for general information, having made some minor tweaks to the clock 'matching' in my Valve DAC I'm now listening consistently at DSD512 rate - maybe sounds just a tiny bit more 'refined' compared with DSD256 but I could just be deluding myself. I've been liste...

Re: what are you doing ?

It's time to add the finishing touches to the 13E1 build so today I've been making the front panel for it. It's being hewn from olive wood (repurposing a cutting board, something Ant put me on to). Olive wood is an interesting material to work with, it's hard and seems to chip, almost like ceramic, ...

Re: Valve DAC

You may recall that I made a mistake positioning the holes in the top panel of the chassis, (where the valves show through), whilst it was only a 2-3mm, the lack of shoddiness was annoying me so I decided to remedy the situation. Instead of trying to botch it I did the job properly (if expensively) ...

Re: Dac for an arcam delta 170.3 transport

I think Nick said (recently) that a proprietary chip (like the AK range) with a decent output stage was the way to go. Not quite After much messing with different DAC's I found the solution that worked for me was an off the shelf DAC chip put together with a simple valve balanced analgue stage comb...
