Re: Desktop/PC speakers...
I haven't been around lately… the uFonkenWK is a favorite around here, and its slighly bigger brother, the uFonkenSET (Special Edition Trapezoid). This is the set that is destined for Scott, but currently in my office. Scott's current uFonkenSET (in solid Western Red Cedar) are with his computer. ht...

Are the frugal horn flatpaks still available? I've tried emailing David at Planet 10 but never received a response. If i did my apologies... i can't find anyunansered inquiries. You want to talk to Colin Topps(y) anyway. He is still doing flat-paks. Post from Manchester a whole lot less than from t...

Hmmm, I'll agree the design uses loads of material, I'm not sure about laminate direction being a weakness using multiple layers of plywood in such a design. I would expect, assuming good sheet bonding/bolting, very serious rigidity and cabinet density. Would be a bugger to lift Higher density is n...

I will probably go for 22mm MDF for the enclosures, but I might just use 18mm as it seems to be widely accepted... Hope i'm not too late or that someone else has chimed in. 15mm quality plywood would be better. You do need 18mm baffles for the A7 rebate. Some will disagree, but MDF for speakers suc...

Re: Richard's Visit.
The Mac Mini was up-sampling the stream and the MF DAC was further up-sampling the up-sampled stream to 24/192, so the signal was suffering a lot of unnecessary processing. Resetting the Mac to output a 16/44.1 stream, restored the body and heft to the sound. This was a very clear difference. Panic...

If you binding posts are going to fall out due to gravity time to get a new set. dave I quite agree. However, a cat or dog or child could easily tread on a cable, and if the stands are metal, or if the plugs on the cable short out then there could be quite a serious kaboom moment. The binding posts...

Blimey that's a LOT of sanding. They all look stunningly good, very aspirational. And if they're better than Scott's baby uFonkens they must be quite extraordinary. It is a lot, even given how easy cedar is to sand. You don't have to use up the full 3mm at once. But if you use up a 1/2mm each time ...

Re: uFonkens with Fostex FF85WK
As very near field monitors they are very good but try and listen to them from any distance and they don't really cut the mustard. These are designed to be very good computer speakers. With carefully choosen material (ie bass shy) they can cause jaws to drop farfield in a large vent (anyone remembe...
