Re: Fane 12-250TC Retro Speaker.

Aye, except you did it properly, Ed. I don't quite know what Nigel is using his for, but presumably it isn't going to be home audio in the sense that any of us would, since his are regular W bins with the driver mounted internally, so the HF & a good portion of the upper mids are going to be AWOL. O...

Re: Fane 12-250TC Retro Speaker.

Lagging a sealed box is quite normal. I'd expect 2in rockwool to drop system Q by about 5% depending on specific type & density. Possibly a bit conservative there.

Re: Fane 12-250TC Retro Speaker.

Speaking purely in the abstract, Fane state Qts = 0.64 on the data sheet assuming a voltage source amplifier & no series R in the circuit. Using the Qe & Qm values it looks like it comes out a touch higher, around 0.658 80 litres undamped = system Q (Qtc) of roughly 0.91 (with light damping that dro...

Re: Fane 15" full range speaker

TBH Steve, I can't think of anything that is controversial about what you're doing. It / they are 'just' classical large sealed boxes with large wideband drivers. Quite popular in the US during the late 1950 - early '60s. A bit like these (OK, yours aren't quite so large, but they're still large sea...

Re: Tuning a speaker

Something you may find useful when damping the box. This is the old click test, popular from the '40s - '60s. Cheap, easy, effective. You don't have to add the damping over the vents BTW, you can add more to the walls, in the bottom or whatever.

The SRs in particular are 'a bit special'. Best speakers Colin & I have done to date? They're my favourites. :D

Re: Fane 15" full range speaker

I cannot be any clearer than I have been three times already. I will not discuss audio with you, Richard. I will discuss it with the people I wish to. Think what you like, abuse me all you like if that's what makes you happy. I do not care about your opinions on audio, or about me.

Re: Fane 15" full range speaker

Right, which in turn affects how they reproduce the signal fed to them. Or to put it another way, 'how they sound'. I rarely bother stating that outright except when talking with people completely new to speaker design, because box size affecting the behaviour and resulting sound is such a basic fac...

Re: Fane 15" full range speaker

I'm not interested Richard. I am not interested in your attempts at baiting, nor your opinions, nor your attempts to make Steve's thread about them. What you are trying to do will not work. I will not discuss audio with you, period. You can make whatever you like of that statement; ignore it, go off...

Re: Fane 15" full range speaker

Oh, I know it, Steve. I've designed & worked with plenty of similar types over the past few years. Mostly commissions for AN drivers, as they were the only large widebanders available for a while other than some hybrid Eminence units, although I'd take the Fanes over those any day. Ain't that the tr...

What has that load of bollocks got to do with music?
When I'm addressing you, you'll know it. I was chatting with my friend Steve. If you wish to write personal abuse at me, please do so elsewhere and do not disrupt Steve's interesting project thread.
