Re: MY own OB speaker project

Some further minor upgrades with the 3-ways. Yesterday I drilled holes in the centre baffles and installed the T90A super tweeters. I machined the holes such the tweeters would be gripped in place with 3mm thick 'O' rings. For those that can remember the Sachiko speakers I built for Andrew, Phil ma...

Re: CC Source in a Spud?

Be interesting to hear which you prefer CCS or choke, both have their advocates, advantages and compromises.

The great thing about a Spud, for me, is it's so easy to try different stuff and see what floats yer boat.

Re: CC Source in a Spud?

Yes, Nick's right, it was wound for parafeed, hence no gap, so more inductance and hopefully better bass.

The 6C45 was shunt regulated too.

Re: CC Source in a Spud?

No input TX, 6C45 was CCS loaded into a para-fed and gapless output TX.

hope that helps.

Re: who would build me a Geddon clone ?

Linn's Valhalla doesn't have a transformer, its "off line", which saves on both cost (to Linn's benefit, I suspect) and eliminates a source of radiated EM noise as the Valhalla board goes under the platter; 33 only. Someone does a modern clone of the Valhalla, that does both 33 and 45, again its off...

Re: My take on a heater supply...

No block diagram as travelling, but three key stages: ideal rectifier, SMPS pre-regulator, final ultra-low-noise linear regulator. Programmable slow-start and shutdown, opto-isolated enable input and power good out (for daisy-chaining). That makes a lot of sense as a block diagram, thanks. Opto is...

Re: My take on a heater supply...

A postfix linear regulator (or buck-boost pre-regulation) neatly addresses most of these compromises, but it's very hard to get the balance right... Hi Nick, I'm a bit unsure of what you mean here by postfix and pre-reg, could you elaborate, please? I think I have a picture in my head of what you'r...

Seems that I can only add three attachments to a post, so here is an LTspiceXVII simulation run of the ramp gen - the output current of the board follows this precisely.
Hi Nick,

Couldn't you use a buck-boost switcher that has a ramp generated slow start on it?

cheers,

PS. Yes, I know that two of the eleven Chunnel TBMs were called Sharon & Tracey. The Americans had one called Brenda.
