Indeed he did -only died a few years ago.
Bader etc? Didn't fit at the time, although as I have RAF Bomber Command in my blood, I might do something related in the future.
Different connotations Dave -around here, Subaru's have overtaken RS Cosworths as the boy-racer-mobiles, painted in flourescent yellow, with bean-cans instead of back-boxes.

we dont even get the subarus here, we get peugeot 306 d turbos (with blown turbos, you can tell by the black shite all over the back end and the sun being blocked out by the exhaust!) or strangely a heck of a lot of old lannies with the same affliction. odd..........but then so is this town

| We've only got them around here due to current owners getting their 13 year-old chav girlfriends to contribute their pocket-money, and the proceeds from the previous week's stealing session from the local JJB Sport.

I found a pic of the Soob... this particular pic shows one of the reasons why, living on a "mountain" it is nice to have the all wheel drive.

That's a good reason.
Sadly, the attached is why Subaru's reputation has suffered in the UK: here we have the latest incarnation of the pratmobile, usually to be found being hammered by chavs through town centres at 11pm of a Friday evening, with a 6in diameter exhaust pipe that puts out more decibels than Krakatoa vying for attention with a pair of cheap subs in the boot with the volume set somewhere between thunderclap & nuclear detonation. Pity really. They were good cars before the fools started in with their fiberglass, angle-grinders, and radioactive paint.

Here Subarus started out as cars for hippies & tree huggers... you are more likely to find a granny than a boy racer in one. The guys buying the turboed Imprezas are usually 30-somes trying to revist their youth.
The boy racers tend towards hondas & rabbits.
A white subaru station wagon is more often associated with the soccer mom (so they make great stealth-mobiles for 50-some boy racers -- Tysen's car seat doesn't hurt either)

id still love a sierra cosworth instead of a 'rice rocket' as a friend of mine calls them. dunno why (probably cos he still has a sierra). p'raps its cos it was the first car i went sideways in, terrifying and exhilarating at the same time plus could get the kids in the back. but then i was a chav at the time but then id sill prefer a fireblade or another gsxr 750 if i wanted to got brain meltingly fast. common sense prevails though (plus a severe lack of bike funds)

A sign of maturity (or getting old )
Prefer a Cobra replica with a small block 302 myself !

or an anglia with the same engine in it, just for thrashing the subaru boys (no exhaust the size of a dustbin lid though! dont they know a lack of back pressure from the exhaust will cause more problems for power output than a small bore one designed to work properly with the car? probly not)

A long while ago there was a firm that advertised in "Motoring News" and they converted Mk3 Escorts to rear wheel drive and fitted a tuned Rover V-8 for rallying.
That would have been a nice Q car !

there was a firm called gartrac that converted mk 4 escorts to either rear or 4 wheel drive by cutting out the floorpan and welding a sierra one in, the sticking a tuned cosworth yb engine in. obviously not that simple, but id bet they were absolutely bonkers to drive! is there anything that hasnt been done to an escort! (maybe a jet engine.............)

I 'spose I don't mind all this total bollocks about cars in a thread I was talking about building and using speakers ...
It does get a bit depressing and I know I have gone off the topic occasionally too, even gone with the flow, caught like a leaf in a mill race, soon to be thrashed by a mill wheel grinding wheat, as it were.
I think its time for another lesson in Balkan politics.
