It's Christmas, I like traditional Christmas's so not being one to break with tradition I thought I'd do another build over the Christmas holidays... 2006 was WD88VA. 2007 was the MLTL's and this year it's a pair of Saburo's.

This has come about because a) I like building things b) Any foole knows 4" FR drivers are the best thing ever (!) c) I have some leave d) I'm an anti-social bugger specially over Christmas... e) Scott bought a pair to an Eggborough Fest and I'd never heard anything sound quite like them, all that music coming from that funny little driver....getawaywithya Smile

Anyway, after months of planning and deliberating I've finally got all the wood cut today.

Oooooo...enough wood to make a pair of Sab's...

The nerve centre...

....and until I make a start (very soon) it'll all stay clamped to try and reduce warping the freshly cut yummy 18mm BP.

More silly pics and posts as they're made, well, it's a tradition innit Wink

Interesting.

I'm impressed with the Neofone BiB I recently knocked together and now I know tall, narrow cabinets look good in my room I'm interested in this project too.

Do you have a link to more info on the design and the driver etc. I just tried a few searches but other than diyaudio I didn't find much.

Cheers

http://www.frugal-horn.com/spawn-plans.html

You can get the much modded drivers from Dave @ Planet 10 http://www.planet10-hifi.com/

I have his 167's very nice, tho' he did promise me new labels for them hint hint (not that you see those when they're in the cabs).

You're more than welcome Graeme, bring yer 'board too... there's a sooperb 4ft-7ft deep bowl a 10 min ride away Wink Smile

'Compact and bijou'.....
...are not words to describe a Saburo in my shed! Temp lash up. I'm going to glue the top/bottom and one side tomorrow but leave the other side open so as to facilitate easy fitting of the internals and the driver bracing, we're going 'whole-hog' BTW, hence all the routing.

I've been making expensive saw dust again today. Tops and bum's are routed 12mm deep by 18mm wide to increase the gluing area and make the whole cabinet strong and hunky (can a cabinet be 'hunky'?)

More piccies as they're made tomorrow.

Embarassed Awww...stoppit you guys... Laughing

Thanks Andrew, yes they seem to be going together quite easily (famous last words). It's just the size of 'em this time, 6' x 1 1/2' in 3/4" BP is a lot of weight and I haven't even put the horny bits in yet! Plus there's the enormous weight of that 4" driver to contend with!!

It was this time last year I learnt to rout wood whenI built the MLTL's. It took me a day just to play with that, deffo easier this time round Wink

Cheers

You're addicted Dave, that's what it is. Wink

Sorry I haven't been around much guys -too much to do, too much lurgy (I've had this damned thing since early November & it just won't shift). I've still got this KLS3 TL to work up too. It'd be easier if they'd actually designed the original XO properly & not tried to fudge it by rolling the midrange off purely acoustically... I'm not sure if I have the courage to suggest anyone tries a different / modified XO, but that's way OT anyway. Let me know what you think to the sound gentlemen. They go down well with Americans, but that's who I primarily aimed the design at, so it'll be interesting what you decadent Britishers make of it (this coming from Eric [well, Scott] the Viking).
