Signal coax recommendations
#16 Re: Signal coax recommendations
now you've confused me Simon...
the photo is rg316 which is 2.49mm outside...yours(rg174) should be fatter, i.e 2.8mm and therefore easier than the stuff in the photo.
I'm not sure but the 316 should be superior(not sure in what respect) because the 316 is silver over copper whereas the 174 is copper over steel...
this could run and run but I'm sure it's a safe bet that nobody here will be able to tell the difference in this application no matter which cable you use.......I may be wrong

This is the stuff Ed. My mistake, it's actually 1.2mm diameter. Horrid!

I'm really not wedded to it, just need some decent coax.

Mmmm, yes, of course. Unfortunately time isn't something I'm blessed with these days though. It's taken me 10 months to get this far - a day of wiring might take me two or three months.

Yep thats the stuff
#22 Re: Signal coax recommendations
But you don't know if its worth doing the first time you do it, so logically thats a bit meaningless.I was always told - if it's worth doing it's worth doing properly.
Also, how do you know what properly means unless you have done it a few times in different ways?
So in fact its probably just a repeat of that old Protestant work ethic so we should regard it as very suspect and fight against it wherever possible.
Whenever an honest man discovers that he's mistaken, he will either cease to be mistaken or he will cease to be honest.

see, I told you it would run and run......snigger
here is the rg174 spec from Farnell, which is exactly the same as the rg174 spec from Maplin...
the adafruit stuff you have is a completely different spec although it says rg174....I wonder which one is correct
I think I need to get out more

TBF the Adafruit website does call it thin RG174.
Anyway I popped to Maplin in Wakey at lunch and bought some simple single core stuff which strips easy enough. It's not the same animal as the RG174 though.
So what I take from all this is that most of us just use whatever we have to hand

optimum solution imo
I've just been revising my Doug Self philosophy 101....I'd forgotten about his views on cable foo, and subjectivism, well worth a read.... like I said I firmly believe nobody could tell the difference in your application.
