Remember these..
#1 Remember these..
Found some pics of these I brought to our 1st Eggfest meet, I made these around 1999 and where my 2nd diy back horns.
In the mid 90's I had discovered the great british px4 valve and was enjoying various (but some where awful? ) single ended amps and i needed a higher efficiency speaker than the ns1000's I had.
I was quite proud of these, they worked well at home... but at nightclub volumes at our meets the bass turned rather coloured so they where eventually replaced by open baffles. They had a 3.6m back horn but there was too much mdf used in their construction, I later realised mdf was not a good material for larger speakers.

The tube manual is quite like a telephone book. The number of it perfect. It is useful to make it possible to speak with a girl. But we can't see her beautiful face from the telephone number

Aye,
I remember those. The dynamics were frightening.

There was quite a dip around 200 Hz which is common with a lot of high eff back back horns, then a upwards slope to around 2 k that really made the mids stand out..
I still have the ex4 drivers and i know they can be made to sound good and fairly accurate with some bass / mids support
I have a plan to use a couple of 15s in my latest 'ported baffle' design with the lowthers.. just need the inclination / time to make them... one day?

A small price to pay for beauty...
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

It's funny how we all have differing views and tastes with speakers...

I do remember them, it was on the 'night of the burning carpet' of course
You did a good job of pinning me to the wall with them turned up to about 100dB !
Good effort on building those.

Yes,
The carpet burning incident does seem to have passed into folklore.
