Meredith isn't feeling too well so I'm afraid it'll only be me there tomorrow.

I'll bring the 15W Transcendent OTL again. I've spectacularly failed to make further significant progress on my current projects.

Sorry to hear that. :(

Mike and I have retired to bed (in separate rooms  ) whilst the others are still jollying.

Although I could only stay for a short day my first visit to Owston was well worth the drive up from Somerset. It was great to meet up and talk audio with so many the Audio Talk regulars and to hear some great sounds from the systems people brought along.

Thanks to Steve S for allowing me to demo by SE-OTL amps through his excellent OB speakers (and, of course, for taking the trouble to organise the event).

Thanks also to Andrew for bringing along the DHT supplies, Phil for the Fostex units and Simon for the Beta 15s.

I had a couple of enquiries about the baroque music I played; tracks 4 & 5 from this album:

Its late now and it's been a long day so I'll comment further after the event when Simon posts his pictures. In the meantime, have a good day tomorrow.

and so to bed...

Ray

Hey John, it was good to meet you and Stoyan and please pass on my compliments to Stoyan for his excellent projects.

Good luck to you with your weight loss program- if I can do it so can you. Maybe we can pencil you in as a prospective member for the AT cycling team?

Just a quick note to say sorry I had to rush off yesterday - something came up that demanded my attention.

Really enjoyed the day. Think next time I'll try and cut down on the amount of DSP used - I was using a digital mixer to switch between different speakers, which can't have helped the sound.

I was impressed with the little commercial speakers that stood about 2' high. Very big sound from a small box, but those woofers were working hard! Think my next small speaker will take some inspiration from there.
Steve's new OBs were very good. They made differences further up the chain quite obvious. Perhaps slightly on the bright side for my taste, but it's a room with a lot of hard reflective surfaces.

Towards the end of the day, we played around with some of the varieties of Doc Mod speakers. I was packing up during that, so couldn't give them my full attention. I do remember the ex-B&W (they say that on the front, but the drivers and crossover have been changed out) needed a good amount of power to get going.

I posted some photos in my blog of my travels at

http://ratbagp.blogspot.co.uk/2017/06/o ... -land.html

I've tried to make it somewhat interesting for my regular blog viewers who have not discovered the delights and joys of our hobby.

Again, thanks for letting me come along and also to Ray for transporting me to and fro.

I hope you take the time to listen to the three tracks that I thought I might play if I had been able to bring my system. Back in the US I have hosted and been to quite a few similar meets and one of the best parts is discovering music that I haven't heard before.

Earlier today, courtesy of Dave's (Thermionic Idler's) Transcendent Son of Beast OTL amp, DTB's laptop and a pair of Doc Mods B&W speakers, I was horrified to find that I was liking a piece of music by King Crimson  And no, it wasn't an easy piece; definitely "specialist" in nature, but it was fooking excellent.
Is there no hope for me?
