#1 Dartford crossing charge.
I've been looking at ways to pay the Dartford crossing toll, should I dare to venture into darkest Kent.
As I don't intend to use it very often, I'm a bit loathe to open a pre paid account (minimum spend £10), and don't really want the hassle of remembering to go online every trip.
It would seem common sense to be able to register a credit/debit card and be billed for each trip, but (as far as I can see) that is not an option. Unless anyone knows differently ?

See here:

You can make a one-off payment yes, according to that.
I transferred from Dart-Tag, again not used it very often but there used to be a minimum number of crossings you had to do per year, else might lose the account. But pretty sure that no longer applies.

Yes, I saw that, but I would have liked an automatic method.Mike H wrote:

In the end I've opened an account and deposited my £10. I've nominated three vehicles, my car, my van and Jeans car. Motorcycles are still free.
A bonus is that we will now get a discount on the toll.

Yes that is right! Same was true of Dart-Tag. I shall miss looking smug when I sail through the booth without having to wind me winder down while the rest are handing over cash.
I note by the blurb on that web page that they prefer you to get an account.

I wonder what proportion of users will have no idea of the new arrangements and how many will just not ever pay ?

Yeah, motorbikes are still free anytime too, no need to register at all.

Who remembers when they had to pay! While not for any other toll in the country.

I do!
It was 30p for motorbikes, it took a long time to fumble for 30p in change after taken gloves off and snuffling about for loose change in the bottom of yer pockets. No wonder they dropped the fee for bikes pretty pronto!

Especially if you are heading for the continent on holiday. And find a £35/70/105 penalty when you return! I have been back and forth for a family death/funeral and very nearly forgot myself, plus I had no interenet access while in Essex.pre65 wrote:I wonder what proportion of users will have no idea of the new arrangements and how many will just not ever pay ?
And they have raised the price for a cheaper system.

I usually keep gloves on so I don't leave fingerprints after a snuffle.

#15 Re: Dartford crossing charge.
Just got an Email from DART, saying they want to close my account due to 12 months inactivity.
I have rung them and got the account reactivated, so my £10 is safe.
