"General Motors plans to begin"

I will believe it when they actually begin, instead of planning for it.

The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

  • Max = 6
  • Phil = 6
  • Simon = 10 (minus 2 I sent previously)
  • Ray = 2
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Late to the party, but that's what I use. Still in my toolbox. :D

NB: there are different qualities of stripboard recently, some I've used was really awful, the stuff I've got from Rapid and RS has been OK, 'course the original Veroboard was the dog's doo-dahs :D

You don't normally need to cut it or saw it, score thru a row of holes with a knife then "crack" it, bending it against a steel rule or similar, however the crappy stuff just shattered if you did that. :(

Indeed. The only place I could see a use for Hydrogen is aviation. Assuming a carbon clean way of producing the H2 which is not their yet either,

There's a very very large amount of it about 93 million miles away.

Is there a "clean way" to make, and dispose of, Lithium batteries yet ?

Why would you want to dispose of them?

Well, they certainly are not everlasting.

I read they may be good for 200,000 miles @ 12,000 per annum, but I'm not sure how, or if, they suffer gradual deterioration as in the mileage range reducing as they age.

In a car, yes, but they don't stop being batteries after that point. There is a lot of scope for reusing the cells in a power wall or some other storage solution. Even if they are totally broken it doesn't make sense to throw them away. The lithium (for example) is still lithium.

good question regarding lithium batteries....

I have 3 sitting in the garden awaiting disposal....I was going to take them to the refuse tip the next time I visit, and see if the council are aware yet...I won't keep them in the house when they start misbehaving...I have first hand experience of what they can do when they're angry.

Regarding the hydrogen thing, there is a whole lot of interesting stuff on wiki regarding efficiency of electric production at the present time and also the current methods of hydrogen production....it hints that electrolysis is becoming more cost effective than methane extraction..which sounds like a good thing because methane is as much a short term commodity as gas and oil...I think. One of the biggest producers is a plant in Fukushima?????

I've learned a new term as well.......Range anxiety....another one to add to our misery.

The infrastructure for electric vehicles needs one hell of an upgrade before "range anxiety" can be ameliorated.

But, I suppose it's a chicken and egg problem.

The GM article I linked to earlier was about GM taking a stake in a company who are developing hydrogen powered goods carrying vehicles (lorries) rather than passenger carrying vehicles.
