Interesting article about how we buy our music.

Just been reading an old ogri cartoon from the late seventies,
Had best name for a pub ever, 'the broken arms' with a punk band called 'the green tossers' on the sign outside
Always flicked straight to the back of bike to read ogri before the rest of the mag

Just spent the better part of 4 hours knashing teeth, swearing, cursing (feck!) and wringing hands trying to get the lenco demonstrator ready for someone to listen to it.
Having to house 2 turntables is a pain in the arse. Having
Shifted stuff around so that the jvc and the lenco would fit, i thought I could just stick the eroica on the modded rega arm and run it into the step up.
No.
Step up threw a fit and started picking some sort of noise up. ( possibly the bloody Christmas lights that flash a pattern? Hmm)
Ok
Dug the xlps out as it will do mc
Doesnt sound right.
Rega started playing up with an intermittent buzz. Traced that and sorted it.
Still doesnt sound right, think its the xlps and rega combo that is just not that good.
Ok.
Put the mayware arm on the lenco with the eroica through the xlps as I didnt want to mess with the jvc.
Sounded awful. Horrible infact. Should've know better.
Finally admitted defeat.
And took the at150 off the jvc and put it in the mayware through the benedict audio phono stage.
Its now fit to listen to.
I shall now have to put either the eroica or the m97 back on the jvc so that the missus can use it.
Ive come to the ( possibly less than objective) conclusion following all this bloody palaver that the musical fidelity is just crap compared to the benedict audio. And that a standard mayware formula 4 is really not suited to lower comp mc carts. All of which I knew anyway.
What does this prove? Nothing other than my own ineptitude. Whyohwhyohwhy did I not just do it right in the first place.

Way ahead of you there Ali!

I did find out the reason that the demo lenco seemed noisier than mi dads lenco though, turns out that it was picking up mechanical hum from the power amp being on the same surface.
The f5 has 2 toroids in it and it can be heard humming when its on from about 18" away. the feet are solid so it was transmitting mechanical noise into the cupboard top that the lenco was also stood on and feeding back through the deck spikes.
The power amp had to be moved to fit both decks onto the top, so my flapping around like a tit for so long wasn't a complete waste of time....
But again........... I should have known better but it never occurred to me
Quiet as you like now

Simon,
I have two sub-woofer plate amps that are for sale if you are interested. Used very little. They are Monacor SAM-1 units.
PM or email me if you are interested. I'd be looking for around £50 each.
