#1 Alpair 12P vs 12PW

Post by Max N »

Was thinking of buying a pair of Alpair 12P, but I see that there are now 2 versions for sale - 12P & 12PW.
I have also seen that there is a 'new' version..
Does anyone know the difference, how many versions there are etc?
Cheers

Max,
The A12PW is the woofer version of the A12P. Madisound in USA have them not sure if they are available through UK agent/distributer.

I have a pair the A12P for sale if you're interested could arrange for them to be at Owston meet?

What Colin said. There are two current generation Alpair 12s, the 12P full-range unit, and the 12PW which is essentially a wideband midbass version of the 12P, with if I recall correctly a slightly different cone mix and a higher Q; it needs a significantly larger box volume than its full-range stablemate.

I might be interested Colin, I just have a couple of questions for you and Scott please...
I'm thinking of trying the 12P on an open baffle with the Eminence beta - is there any reason why that isn't a good idea?

Should be good Max, I have a pair which I was going to use with my quad of Alphas. Never got round to it though. They'll be used in the new four way design.

My favourite full ranger, that's for sure.

I've been using 12Ps in Quasars with Supravox 285GMF bass helpers and Monacor pseudo ribbons above 12k for 3 years or so Max and they sound great :-). I like the 12Ps a lot, definitely worth trying.

Colin's just got a new Harley to play with, so he might have been out & about. ;)

The 12P is one of my all time favourite wideband drivers. Although I admit to some bias there as there's a little bit of me in those units.

Ok, thanks Scott, I'll wait to hear from Colin.
You must be proud of your part in the 12P, they seem to be universally well-liked. I'm looking forward to having a play with them.

What have you got ?
The tube manual is quite like a telephone book. The number of it perfect. It is useful to make it possible to speak with a girl. But we can't see her beautiful face from the telephone number

Yes please Colin, a picture would be nice.

We've got a few bikers on here now. :)

I wasn't going to say anything on the forum but as Scott has let the cat out of the bag and a few other members know here's a couple photos. The bike by-the-way is a Superlow 1200T.

The massive padded back rest on the sissy bar was an insistent add-on purchase by Lynn. Has cost me a new set of leathers, boots and helmet for her to ride as my bitch!
