#1 DIY CD transports.

Post by pre65 »

In view of all the recent (very interesting) talk about DACs, I wondered if Clive had any tips on what feeds the DAC, ie the transport ?

For quite a while I've been championing the (rather old these days) NEC CDR-602 CD ROM reader, and more recently a computer DVD ROM drive in a small form case with Chinese controller and display kit, shown here without outer casing.Last mod was to remove the computer PSU and install a 12v/5v SMPSU.

For the last few months I've been using my Cambridge Audio CD player with the DAC. Tonight I've gone back to the DIY CD player and I could tell within seconds that it was better.

So I'm bringing it to Owston this weekend.

Here it is "clothed".

This is the one with a computer DVD drive, I don't think you have seen it before.

I've ordered a PS1 Sony console (model SCPH-1002 ) off Ebay, and I've found out how to extract the SPDIF signal.

Cost me £15 so nothing to lose, and I always wanted a top loader.

Will not be here for about 7 days so no more news for a while.
