I know my "bass bins" are not quite right yet, but EL34 just gives too much bass for my likings.
Can anyone remember the details of an article that was to do with where to place the G3 connection on EL34's ?

Ah yes, to ground it or not to ground it
I said grounding it was a load of hogwash.
As a matter of interest, when we was using my Rocky at your place and we tried your EL34's, there was no G3 connection, ack-chewly. I had taken out the switch for it
Seemed to work alright though

I forget who it was, but someone here had an EL34 amp with no G3 connection and when informed of his error, grounded G3 and was amazed at how much better it was.Mike H wrote:Ah yes, to ground it or not to ground it

Was it Ed ? Was it Bill or was it Ben ?

certainly wasn't me.....
I remember publicising the grounded G3 loud and long after PB persuaded me to take it off the cathode
you might try and frame Bill or Ben for it

Perhaps that's what I was remembering ?ed wrote: I remember publicising the grounded G3 loud and long after PB persuaded me to take it off the cathode
Can you briefly elucidate on the finer details ?
Seems Bill and Ben are on the weed !

Felt like doing something different today !
I see you can get "wood kits" to personalise cars, so I've made one to personalise my amps. I wanted to raise them off the floor a wasp (bigger than a gnat ) and also have a fik wooden front.
This photo shows the wood in position but not actually secured yet.

I suppose aluminium and carbon fibre are more in vogue for today's motorists.Mike H wrote:Wood kits to personalize cars?

These are the two monoblocks I'm resurrecting to drive the interstages for driving 833a.
They can, of course, also be used as everyday amps when used with the "big" Hammond OPT.
First job is to remake the circuit boards which are now FR2 glass fibre. I've drilled all the holes for the turret tags, and have now made a tool to rivet them on. One board is fully riveted now and the other one soon will be.

Because the two halves of 6DN7 are directly coupled I need to raise the heater voltage by about 60v.
Now the KT66 cathode is at 60v, so can I tap into there for my 60v to the 6.3v winding centre tap, or would a potential divider be best ?

yes, as long as you have a cathode bypass capacitor.
