Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop
Was wondering whether a vent underneath would work.. Will have an 8mm gap, generated by the spiked feet, thats there towihopefully decouple the midrange cabinet from the subs they sit on. Will have some additional resistance too, I know Hiraga, used a down firing vent onto a plinth, so it has pedig...

Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop
You do if you have REW. It just needs a couple of resistors & leads. Granted, that means a low voltage measurement, but [much] better than nothing.

Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop
It's an attempt at creating a semi-cardioid polar in the lower midband / upper bass (note caveat). From the dimensions, it may reduce internal reflections or kill an upper mode, but it's almost impossible to wipe out a box primary that way. The reflected back wave has nothing to do with the system r...

Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop
You'll never achieve a flat-line with this sort of box unfortunately, just move somewhat in that direction. The nearest it's possible to get is a max-flat impedance TL, and even those are rarely completely flattened. A couple of general pointers: All other things being equal, by blocking some of the...

A very painful thing to do, so I'm told.

Re: T/S parameters valid for normal listening levels.
Good job it is a hypothetical speaker and nobody is building it then Seriously though, many small bookshelf speakers are tuned to around 70Hz, so not ridiculous, unless, like you said, you like bass Not ridiculous so much as nature of the beast -although it's usually a good idea to go easy with the...

Re: T/S parameters valid for normal listening levels.
I'd generally call that an example (and understanding it's purely meant as an example) of bad design rather than an issue with vented boxes per se. Any vented enclosure will ultimately unload 4th order at some point below Fb -even a nominally aperiodic [open] TL. It's really just a question of at wh...

Re: We who are about to die salute you
Thus far it's lived up to mine, in that as far as I can tell it has zero audible influence, which is pretty much exactly what I want from wire. Certainly, I've found nothing in the measurements I took of it to suggest any either. Whether it's really any better for my application than my usual Supra ...

Re: Something Stirs in the Workshop
Depends in what context you're referring to compression & how far you're pushing things; as far as I can see you're still not missing anything though since Seas were trying to keep box size down: One of the design goals of this system is to make the enclosure as small as possible ...while you're...
