Re: PSE EL84 Amplifier

What did surprise me when switching to 45SET was more detail in the mid and treble compared to the coppers. May not be the case, but what I have found you can't ignore is how much simpler it is to make a good transformer for a 45 than it is a gm70. And one of the things I find a good rather than an...

Re: PSE EL84 Amplifier

You should try and get away for the day and come over to the North West Audio Show (22nd/23rd June, Chester area). There normally are some systems that are a cut above what you might expect from commercial kit. Not trying to convert you or sell to you, but it just would be interesting to maybe re-ca...

Re: C3g Aikido Phono

Well, I may be wrong, but ceramic is generally used for RF as they have lower impedance than film for a given capacitance so better for HF.

Hmm, I think we may also have different definitions of what firm means. Though having adjustable dampers helps a lot.

Re: Nothing In Particular

Thanks Nick. The MX has a very good rep for handling on the road from what I read (As does the Boxster of course). Would love a Boxster but I think it would become wearing as a daily driver, the MX would be better in that respect. Maybe about the wearing side. Depends on age. Later one with pasm wo...

Re: Nothing In Particular

How does steering feel compare between them? The Mx is a bit faster to turn in, but the standard soft springs let it down as once its started turning it leans a lot (and I guess the extra weight up front adds to that). The Porsche is a lot more composed. They both let you know whats going on well e...

Re: OK…so I’m on wi’ summat

A layer of hash has been removed as it was last time. I have to ask. Did the layer of hash come back when you put the electrolytics back in last time? Yes, it was just a slight bit of fuzz around the treble. It's not a night and day difference with the motor runs in place but it's there nonetheless...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Well, the Boxster is faster overall, but the mx5 is higher geared, and the throttle response via the ME ECU is a lot more instant. I can see that the Boxster has some filtering in the system somewhere. The Boxster seems to encourage a more "smooth" driving style, while the mx5 seems to pre...

Re: Nothing In Particular

All good. Was at Croft. Well not all good still loads to work on. Almost got the Mx5 to where I wanted it. (Much cheaper to turn into what I want than the Boxster would be). Being driven around by someone who knows what he is doing puts a stake in the ground what the car will do. I doubt getting clo...

Well I am not fighting for that valve :-). But a flat load line does wonders.
