Yep, I have used similar transformers in the past for GM70. Course one thing I should have said, is that the 813 heaters were AC heated, stick a bridge and some caps in front and the requirements from the transformer increase considerably.

OK Nick, I suppose a transformer should be able to operate at it's design limit without getting excessively hot ! 120VA is double the rating actually needed for one GM70 and the transformer is mildly warm to the touch. Well, I would have gone (and for that matter have done in the past) for 70VA per...

You will need (in my opinion) a 120VA 18v transformer for each GM70 DC filament heater supply.

Anything less will give you hot transformers.
Or with respect, transformers that are actually built to their spec (cf cheaper toroids).

Last time I got a quote from Terry he was quite a lot dearer than Antec, even considering the shipping costs.
Yep, you can find cheaper off the shelf, but if you want a particular set of secondaries then he is great.

SP Wound are good, Majestic are good, Sowter are good. Lundahl are good, AE are good. Ask-Jan are very good at the budget end, but look a bit naff (IMHO). Thats just my experience. if you want off the shelf, Sowter have a good range, the others may need more input from you. Others are happy with far...

It's a curious thing - many people would consider the valve sound more natural or organic, to use a few words I've heard to describe the sound. However, said speaker isn't accurately reproducing the input to the amplifier any more. What conclusions can we draw from this? People are strange. :-) To ...

The WD PreII is a good shape.

I assume you mean a single ended preamp, not balanced.

Gain stage driving a TVC or AVC is my prefered at this time.

After a lot of time, money and falling down water the result of ...

It may be the erratic drawer caused the disk to end up off center on the spindle, and the noise you heard was the head servo working to keep the laser aligned to the eccentric disk.

Yep, CD's have a constant velocity past the reading head, so that means the system slows the rotation down as the laser moves from the center (the disk starts a the center and works outward). LP's have a constant angular velocity, so the speed past the stylus is less in the center than the outside. ...

If you loose the resistor above the choke on the second valve, that gives you a extra 60v, increase the anode voltage on the 76, remove the anode resistor in the second stage, and insert it into the cathode of the second stage to raise that up by the same amount.
