Re: EAC beginner question

So, that’s interesting. For each track, the files are different. But converting from flac to plain data files, it becomes clear the difference is that the A version has a extra 100 or so empty (0,0) samples at the front and end. But when I strip these out, the two files are numerically identical. An...

Re: EAC beginner question

Put them where I can get them and I will compare the checksums to see if there is any difference.

Re: PASS 50W single ended mosfet amp.

Its a step down TX on the end of the pre2

The pass amp has all the gain it needs in the mosfet with its transconductance of around 10S (1v change on the gate == 10A change on the output),

Re: "The Flatback Banned" OmniMet

In parallel with this tweeter, the 4 Ohm, 94dB, SB Acoustics ring radiator has a 3.3uF series cap too
Just to be awkward, I would suggest this is a higher order filter, C, L, C, Tweeter,

Re: WAV vs FLAC

Was the RasPi also connected to Nick's DAC? Yes, should have added that ! Even so, you still have loads of differences. The Pi is going via USB to the USB input board in the dac, is powered by the pi supply, and is talking to the dac chip via some isolating buffers. The DC is going via sp/diff via ...

Re: WAV vs FLAC

If I can get EAC to rip a couple of WAV files from the CD and play in the same way, I could try it some time soon.
Just select the uncompressed extract and save to a different location (maybe add "- wav" ) after the CD name then its easy to do the comparison.

Re: MY own OB speaker project

I would guestimate, that the OB's I have, suffer from the response and problems of the FE167E, but I have got used to those, so it doesn’t worry me, the Monacore is I think probably a better solution and more neutral, and not so directional. I thing the Beta 15 in the much bigger baffle with large s...

Re: MY own OB speaker project

It is a fair question, but I dont think I can give a answer without doing a closer test between the two. They are all good, but each with a different version of good I would say. What you want to know which is better, that’s the bit I am unsure about.

Re: MY own OB speaker project

How would Nick (and others) compare Colins baffles with the James Doddington design that Nick currently uses
I would put them both in the same room and play the same music through the two.

Re: WAV vs FLAC

A more interesting test would be to convert the flack back to wav and see if he can tell a difference. While he was doing that, he could run a check sum on the direct wav and the via flac wav and see if there was a difference. If he can still tell a difference, I would say the problem is in the serv...

Re: MY own OB speaker project

Just to add to Colins, when we first tried the mini dsp to boost the bass it was between the CD and preamp, and with hindsight, was doomed to failure as the signal level was too high so the dsp input was clipping, we did drop the output of the CD player to avoid this, but I think it threw too many b...

Re: MY own OB speaker project

Ok, so a good time was had by all. First off the OB's with the Monacore coax unit was in use first. Initial problems we heard was lack of bass and midrange a bit confused. with some thinking (and beer) we solved both of these by adding some side wings to the lower bass driver (pair of LP's propped e...

Re: Signal coax recommendations

I was always told - if it's worth doing it's worth doing properly. But you don't know if its worth doing the first time you do it, so logically thats a bit meaningless. Also, how do you know what properly means unless you have done it a few times in different ways? So in fact its probably just a re...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Seems to me there are two possible simple answers

1. Less insects
2. Better aerodynamics
