Re: Fane 12-250TC Retro Speaker.

I broke the 211 out of storage the other day (removed cardboard boxes, cleaned out cobwebs and replace a 6d22s), that might work well with these speakers. Will see if I can put it in the car for Owston. Its driving Dave's field coil speakers at the moment.

Re: Niobium - Valve pre for SS Power Amp

Yes, remember there is nothing magical about joining earth’s that creates hum, its only when there is a potential difference between the two. The potential difference (normally AC) creates a current in the joining conductor (as it does), that current creates a voltage (as it does), so the voltage me...

Re: What Are You Listening To Right This Minute?

I only saw him once, at the Square Chapel in Halifax, great gig in a ideal venue (solo piano in a big empty brick walled room, lots of nice reverb).

Re: Niobium - Valve pre for SS Power Amp

Well, unless the output float, then you you will always have joined earth connections (people do make cables with the screen only connected at one end to solve the problem). If there is no difference in the ground potential then there is no current and no loop. The difference in a amp is that you ar...

Re: Niobium - Valve pre for SS Power Amp

Why not just add a switch to let the output float if required,

Re: Long tail pair with a short tail

the difference between no distortion, and distortion giving 2nd-harmonic at -70dB . It was better with the small amount of 2nd. Thing is, the no distortion case wont be no distortion, there will still be higher harmonics down there, but the addition of the 2md will mask them. I found when messing w...

Re: Long tail pair with a short tail

I would expect as you say a little 2nd, but no other real problem. FYI, in that case I would be looking at a CCS using a DN2535N3-G instead of a 317, they are only 56p from Farnell.

I just found Farnell had them when I had to repair a ARC phono which used them all over the place in LTP tails.

Re: gdpr and fora

I'm pretty sure it's not just commercial...it looks like any kind of activity, that includes non profit making and charities....
Yep, though that doesn't alter what Jack said. The ICO is the best and least excited source of info.

Re: gdpr and fora

Yep, a good example is if you are in the crowd at a public event and someone takes a picture with you in it, then you have no control over that image of yourself. Indeed, it's extremely complex and far from clear. Yep, but I agree that the docs on the ICO website are the best source of clarity, avoi...

The right to deletion is not as simple as that, there are a number of reasons why information may be retained, some of those may well be applicable to forums.

I got quite comfortable thinking that on this forum we don't care...
Not caring doesn't mean its not been thought about. I am more than happy to think about something and THEN disregard it :-)

directionality with all that has been posted in recent years about directionality of :- interconnects, fuses, speaker cables et al...... what about chokes? and have some manufacturers got it wrong perhaps? would this explain why some people think some amplifiers are 'better' than others?.....
