Good design aims for a decade between -3dB point and final lower bandwidth limit so for the driver so we should design for 2Hz for a final 20Hz -3dB point and that puts us at 400H for the IT!!! Though this is a design aim for non inductive elements I understand the compromises of inductive componen...

Just had a thought - Laurence might be onto something... If the Fet/pentode transfer curves curvature doesn't cancel for higher order harmonics then maybe a FET-U/L triode cascode can be tweaked to cancel higher order harmonics? And the compound stage might sound better than the alternatives.... Mu...

What about a hybrid half of the bias with auto the other half with fixed. I am fairly certain this was done somewhere on a classic circuit, I thought it was the ST70 but when I just looked it up there is only a 15 ohm resistor on the cathode, which I wouldn't have thought made a difference. But I am...

I find the Sovtek 2A3's to be very good and can handle more HT than NOS types. I cant recall where I read it or if its true that they use the plates from the Sovtek 300B...could be complete BS, but I run mine with 300v across them and have run much more without signs of distress. I remember that st...

The higher impedance is an easier match so generally aim for higher impedance. The classic studio monitor the Sennheiser HD414 open back headphones were adopted wholesale when they came out because of their higher impedance in their day. They are close field monitors for the ears. Absolutely flat re...

What do you know about the guitar ed? sounds metal strung but very acoustic. Can't tell if the room echo thud which gives the 4th beat all the way through is a hand slap on the guitar or some type of percussion instrument. It says in the write up there is a drummer. Have you been to see him live? ca...

But then, our Greg, I'm getting a sniff here you might have been a plod yourself at one time. Am I mistaken? Correct? Just a hunch of course. Double-whammy!. Greg was a policeman and is now a social worker, but in his case for policeman think George Dixon rather than Gene Hunt. Then I have every re...

So it seems with an OPAMP I could just copy that portion I want put it after my 12ax7 RC network and I have a hybrid rig...

a really good way is a hybrid split: passive on the 75uS and active on the bottom (feedback). that can be made to sound almost indistinguishable from an LCR. always roll the top first, at a lower signal level, then the bottom. you have to keep an eye on the clicks and pops. Now then this sounds lik...
